Anvil // Metal On Metal

Good classic metal album.
I was keen to check out 'Metal On Metal' after reading 'Anvil - The Story of Anvil', in which the album is described as an innovative and highly influential masterpiece. Frontman Lips even claimed that Metallica, Slayer, Motley Crue and Bon Jovi based their early sounds on tracks from the record. So just how good is 'Metal On Metal'? Well, it's definitely no 'Number of the Beast', 'Master of Puppets' or 'Reign In Blood'. But it's still a very good record with some great tracks in 'Metal On Metal' itself, 'Mothra', Stop Me' and 'March of the Crabs'. The lyrics are occasionally a little silly, but the the riffs and drumming are fantastic. Several prominent musicians (including GN'R's Slash) have hailed MOM as an important influence, but the album was clearly inspired by many classic and contemporary bands at the time of its release ('Scenery', in particular, borrows heavily from Ozzy's 'Crazy Train') and is NOT as original and groundbreaking as some claim. However, while I don't believe Anvil were ever going to reach the heights scaled by the likes of Iron Maiden and Metallica, they were a good band who should have achieved a greater degree of success than they did. As it stands, 'Metal On Metal' is still their best album, and one that deserves a place in any classic metal collection.

Metal on Metal is a medal for music.
Quality Cd wallet and cover photo are excellent. I listened to the first three songs with my mouth open thunderstruck at the great quality of sound coming from my speakers. I decided to stop listening and let my hifi system warm up for an hour before playing the disc from start to finish, wishing i had bought all of Anvils Cds. Metal on Metal is what it is a spectacular listen of a quality group. I think a Commonwealth Queen's Medal for Music should be awarded by Queen Elizabeth. This group have over the years been a stalwart of great music and allowed the inspiration of many Rock groups. Anvil are the original to the originals. True Kings of Rock.

The bands Best, never beaten
A brilliant follow up to the debut, this is the bands best release and never bettered in terms of songs, production, riffs and playing. This is "classic" metal in it's truest sense, nothing more, nothing less. The years have treated this album well and the songs still hold up very well.If you love traditional, classic metal played with passion, then this is a stone cold must have.Best songs are: Metal On Metal, Mothra, Stop Me, March of the Crabs & Tease Me, Please Me. In all honesty its all great though10. 666 4:46

Classic Metal
I bought this after watching the recent Anvil film, and remembering owning a copy of Forged in Fire in the 80s. After hearing it I wasn't disappointed! It's a superb metal album and it makes one wonder why Anvil never hit the big time.Yes there are a few cheesy lyrics but they more than make up for it in great metal tunes. Tracks such as the title track, 666 and the classic Mothra are bone fide classic 80s metal. If you like your metal straight forward, well written and heavy this is a must-have album. Hearing this has made me want to buy Hard N Heavy and get Forged in Fire again.
