Erotic Poems from the Sanskrit: An Anthology (Translations from the Asian Classics)

A Great, Brief Anthology
There are only 100 poems in this collection, but they are well chosen for their vivid images and dramatic situations. The introduction not only gives the basics about Sanskrit erotic poetry, but also compares the Sanskrit to other erotic traditions (ancient Greek and Chinese). The book is a good overview that can either satisfy your curiosity about Sanskrit poetry, or serve as a springboard for further reading.

Incredible
This is a good, representative collection of erotic poems from various periods in India, primarily from the Medieval period. The translations are good, and the introduction is excellent and informative. While there are a few, these poems do not reflect only on the physical act, but comprise the full array of desire and romantic love. They are moving without being explicit and leave to the reader where romantic desire and feeling belong — in the imagination of the mind. These poems are the antidote for those periods whenever you may feel blue.
