I lost the key to my old Murray ride on and ordered this - according to the Murray part number this was a match. I'm not 100% sure if it is - when I crank the mower it won't start until I let go of the key - in other words, there doesn't seem to be any spark while it's cranking but as soon as you release the key it fires right up. If I hotwire the solenoid with the key on it fires up while cranking. As long as I can start the mower I'm happy!

This switch arrived promptly and in a small box. Included were a pair of keys and the panel nut with lock washer, and with a slip of paper showing the pin out. The pin out was correct per OEM. Fit and finish were correct. HOWEVER, simply bench check with DVM continuity revealed that the logic of the pins CHANGED every time the key was rotated. This can be dangerous if installed and the switch connects the battery to the ground for a short circuit. the resulting immense current could cause a fire. Clearly the internal mechanism was loose. The assembly is crimped tight so I could not disassemble to repair. returning for replacement. This model switch is very difficult to find so I will chance the replacement - and will TRIPLE CHECK the operation.

This ignition switch came apart. Almost like it disassembled itself. The backing fell out and then all internal pieces fell out. I used it for less than three months. It worked great til it broke. 🤬
