Great Book on Microscopy
This is a fantastic book. The style is straightforward and the graphics provide an excellent description of the concepts of the optical mechanisms. The use of color and the ability to convey complex ideas simply is an exceptionally good element of presentation. The book covers almost all elements of modern microscopy. Specifically:1. Classic microscopy2. Phase contrast and darkfield. I especially like the simplicity of his presentation since I have used this approach on various samples.3. Fluorescence microscopy4. Plolarized techniques5. Superresoultion6. Digital ImagingThe book is an excellent combination of introductory explanation and a basis for in depth understanding.Again, I especially liked the graphics and found the authors approach very worth while. This is a book for both beginners and intermediate users. It allows one to explore all the dimensions of a good microscope.

Poor quality print and paper by amazon
Content is excellent but print of this version by Amazon is very poor and not worth the money. Buy the original version of this book somewhere else. I have a colleague who has this very same book and the quality is not comparable to this version here sold by Amazon.

Great book with excellent topic coverage
This book is excellent I purchased for a graduate class and it has been able to cover many important fundamental topics of microscopy theory and application. It is appropriate for levels from novice to expert.

An expensive, but well-done introduction to microscopy
This is an expensive book, but the combination of theory, technology, and practice with clarity of presentation make this the best book I have read on microscopes and imaging. I strongly recommend it to enthusiasts in microscopy. I assume most professionals in the field already have this book in their reference library.

Great text for student or researcher
This is a comprehensive text of light microscopy and electronic imaging. It covers the traditional topics of brightfield, darkfield, DIC, and phase contrast but it also goes into confocal and ultra high resolution techniques. It is amply illustrated with colorful diagrams that elucidate the principles of optical microscopy.Highly recommended.

A MODERN POMPOSITY AND EXERCISE IN IGNORANCE
A TRAVESTY. Typical of modern textbooks that are pompous expositions of ignorance, I put it down the moment I saw that Ernst ABBE had an accent over E and Reichert was described as a GERMAN manufacturer (try AUSTRIAN). Such errors after several editions are inexcusable. And how about the use of “microscopy” when correct English is to use “microscopical.” Again, typical of the new pseudo-intellectuals permeating academia today.I suppose that some information presented is pertinent, but it sickens me to think that this book is considered by many (also as ignorant of microscopical principles, no doubt) as something special. No doubt it sells well and gets high marks. But mediocrity defends itself, does it not?

顕微鏡の基本がよくまとめられている良い本です。
顕微鏡で仕事をする方々には、是非、目を通して置いて欲しい本です。英書なのが若干の敷居かもしれませんが、職場で一冊持っていても良いと思います。
