How wide is the stem (bottom) of this funnel?

It's more like 1 1/8" including the bars to hold it in place. Relied upon the 1" (above answer), but the extra 1/8" for the bars won't fit my oil jug for recycle.

Would the spout fit into a gallon milk jug mouth? Need something for filling gallon container with birdseed. Thanks!

I have the same application. The spout, as is, will not fit into a milk jug. Around the spout are "fins" designed to allow air to escape when being used for liquids. I trimmed off the lower ring of "fins" and the spout will just fit into a gallon milk jug - BUT - it does not go into the jug far enough to be stable without holding the funnel. If you are pouring seed from a bag or other container that requires two hands to handle, this will not work.
