Just Roll It Baby
WE are just now putting this on our newly sanded and whitewashed parquet wood flooring (whitewashed with half water to half Kilz) but I did some sample pieces first as any scientist would. I sectioned off a block in the kitchen (which are to be taken up and tiled) to test my potential finishes; all strips except one were treated with the Kilz whitewash mixture, the one strip was left as sanded raw red oak. To these strips I applied every other strip of four tiles with the one coat of Ecoprocote Eco-Poly Sealer and Floor finish; alternating strips got either no treatment over the whitewash or a custom beeswax polish which I use on my butcherblock countertops; the raw wood got Eco-Poly Floor Finish and Sealer. Appallingly I did not take pictures but I can report there was a marked difference in the Eco-poly coat vs bare whitewash alone and beeswax. I first wrung out a water soaked rag across the strips; water beaded up on all except the plain Kilz coated and the beeswax strips—water pretty much blanched into them. I then raked a fork and a putty knife across the strips as if dragging furniture like a dunce. The Ecopoly showed very little scratching while the bare and beeswax treated strips showed deep rakes. I then applied a second coat of Eco-poly on the alternating test strips. Proved to be even tougher, no scratches seen but still showed on the second coat of beeswax coated strips. To verify—because the floor was whitewashed over a raw red oak so would not naturally show much scratching—I painted the strips with black acrylic paint and ragged it off. The Eco-poly coat showed no residue whatsoever while the bare and beeswax strips did prove the fork scratches quite badly. So I conclude that the Eco-polycote is the best natural floor finish as compared to a natural polish or Kilz whitewash alone—Kilz is not recommended for floors but it’s the white paint we had and it did a great job of covering in some badly discolored places—even sanded raw this floor took a beating over the years, plus I did not want a plastic layer just on top from using latex paint. I am confident with the Eco-Poly product will hold up well. I will update in a few months to see how the Eco-Poly actually held up over Kilz. Kilz may be the problem if there proves to be one but I doubt it. (I chose this product initially because it doesn’t amber and I intended to use it straight on the sanded raw red oak, and because it is safe for our livers but also, if my cat walked on it wet, and she did, it was safe for her to lick off. AS it happens the Eco-Poly did bring out the browns in the raw samples but even water did that—it wasn’t red though—which I did not want and that is why we went with a whitewash; had to be that or go dark; for my beachhouse look I went light.) I highly recommend this product.WE did choose the gloss but on the samples there was no gloss after drying so we’ll see. Also, we were doing the great room/dining floors so have 525 continuous square feet which took a whole gallon for one coat using a foam roller—we did buy the block thing wrapped with foam but it was hard to apply with it; my husband was a professional wallcoverer/painter so we roll baby. (Couldn’t find the large foam roller at the big orange store,—only a pencil roller which I tried with but takes f o r e v e r —found one at a local hardware store .) We are waiting now for the second gallon to put on another coat so I’d say since it takes so long to arrive from AZ to TX I should have ordered more than I thought we would need; it won’t be a loss because it can be used as a varnish on anything. WE are planning now to put it over bare concrete in the hallway and painted concrete in the bonus room.)Update: Excuse the mess—these pictures are after one coat of Eco-Poly Floor Finish and Sealer, we definitely have shine now don’t we! It is dry to the touch, took only 30 minutes. We have just enough of a gallon left to roll back over the high traffic areas so will do that and put the new furniture in.

Excellent product
Sealed my kitchen wood cabinets effectively; water doesn’t penetrate into wood. Brings out beauty of Wood grain & leaves a glossy look. Very please w/ product. It didn’t irritate my lungs nor increase my allergies.

Easy to use
Went on easy and clean-up with water is great. No smell.....just not sure about durability. Put on camper wood floor.

Great product, left amber tone
Great sealer & matte finish is low luster, just what I wanted for I my kitchen concrete countertops. Water beaded up, durable. Did exactly what it was supposed to. However, it did darken my countertops & left and turned what were grey tones into taupe (amber color). Hence three stars. I was able to easily sand the product down, grey color returned, and the product penetrated enough most water still beads up. I can just spray a topcoat on that I know is "clear" & will give an added layer of protection

Excellent!
Excellent non toxic sealant and dries veryquickly. The satin finish has a natural wood appearance.

Sloppy product
There's a good chance I am just a poor applying. I used a brush and paint cup and did two coats. This product appears to be protective but is very hard and tiresome to apply, and any missed layers are extremely visible. I easily see it with the naked eye and lamplight. Definitely visible with the sunlight.I like that it doesn't smell bad. If you got something dirty into it while wet, and that debris sticks, it is easily removed. I imagine that would be harder to remove from the oil based polyurethane products.I hoped to use some roller paintbrush foam device but couldn't find one. It's called a tbar, and then you'd dump the product and roll it on. But I couldn't find this product anywhere and so I have a sloppy paintbrush and no better ideas. I am completely not a professional but I needed the wood to be at least a little waterproofed because it rains a lot here. Sadly I didn't get the pretty glossy look I wanted but there really is a good difference between when it's been glossed and not (mineral oils). I do feel the glass keeps my floor itself a tiny cleaner but it will never get to the glossy level and uses too much product to get halfway there even. I think for my entire first floor I would need two cans per room maybe totalling 8 cans for the whole house.I want to buy low VOC products but it just doesn't hold up in the way I hoped.
