Is the inside of the mug itself stainless steel, or is it plastic surrounded by stainless steel?

Normally with a stainless steal mug the first few uses have a slight steel taste... ? Have anyone commented on this?

Jas anyone had any issues with cleaning the lid? Is the lid easy to clean?

No issues at all. You simple unsnap the top and bottom of the lid and clean it without any problems. It's definitely worth it.

I see in the videos that the lid is dishwasher safe. But is the base (the mug itself) dishwasher safe also?

I don't think so. I am reading the documentation sent with these mugs, I have 6 of them, and the only thing it shows besides instructions on use and care, is this: www.gocontigo.com Copyright 2011 Ignite USA. Warm after 4 hrs... good luck! They show Patent in the US but still could be manufactured in China but I doubt it. Do call them.
