Can you use regular shower caps with this or do you need them specifically ordered from the manufacturer?

You can use regular shower caps. Personally after having purchased this heated cap somehow despite my vigilant care, it developed a hole rendering this useless. I instead highly recommend another heated cap purchased on amazon made of flax seed.

I know this sound stupid but can this actually go in the Microwave? Sense it cheap??

for how long does it hold warm?

That depends on how long you heat it up for. Normally, I will heat it for 2 minutes and it will stay warm for about 30-45mins
