Bought as a birthday gift for a middle schooler last year. He loves it so much, he convinced his band leader to let him play it during their concerts this past school year!

Bought to use in my elementary school classroom. I had another slide whistle I had bought at a toy store, and it was basically that--a toy. This whistle sounds great, is easy to use, and feels quality. My students love it and laugh every time we do high and low activities and vocal exploration with it.

As others have mentioned, the slide is too sticky to play melodies easily - although it moves well once you get it going, it takes lots of force to start the motion. Thus it's impossible to be precise. The problem is not the metal slide, but rather the interior plunger. I can't see the plunger well, but I assume it is made of rubber or plastic. A petroleum based lube like WD40 or vaseline would therefore degrade the plunger. I used a lube made for Rubik's cubes, called DNM-37. Any silicon or water based lube should work. I put a few drops right in the sound hole near the mouthpiece. This really improved the motion, and I can actually play tunes now - though it's still not as smooth as I would like.When I first got it, the metal slide was bent, so I had to straighten it by hand to make it possible to play. This was very easy to do, but it did technically arrive damaged and nonfunctional.It seems durable, has a fun tone, and works well enough after lubrication. But don't expect real finesse.

I bought one of these for my sons to share, and we have been getting SO many laughs out of it. No one is safe... lol. Bend over, stand up, sit in a chair... now it all has a soundtrack to make people laugh. They fake sneezing and coordinate the ramp up and fake sneeze with the sound of the whistle.. they wolf call, they imitate R2D2 sounds. So overall a very well used and funny gift. Buy one and give it to "that" family member if you want a hilarious family gathering. Who knew it would be so fun? Thank you for your time.

The slide is a little tight at first but is getting better with more use. The finish is absolutely beautiful and the sound is fantastic.

The kids had a cheaper one but it was hard to play. This one is well made and operates smoothly which makes it much easier.
