Just What the Doctor Ordered
Just like many Amazon buyers, I do a lot of research and read through many reviews before making a purchase. When it came time for me to buy an oil catch pan / container there was a surprisingly small selection. The main competitor to this brand had too many negative reviews calling into question build quality / leaks. Used car oil is obviously not something you want to take a chance spilling so I knew I had to find something better. This is when I stumbled upon the Matrix Concepts selection (smaller size than this). Those were highly rated but apparently too small for bigger jobs, holding 4-5 quarts max but luckily they had a brand new release item - the one I'm writing the review for (M28-115).I have to say, this thing perfectly fulfilled all the criteria I had set forth:Build Quality: Excellent. This thing is built with thick plastic and I felt confident sliding it around the pavement under my car. The top cap, drain valve, and air vent all close tightly and do not leak.Design: Relatively deep and wide (11" x 14") catch pan with the drain plug as high off the floor as possible when in upright position. Speaking of which, this thing is designed to stand on its side and is rather sturdy when doing so, it's currently standing up in my garage with about ~4 quarts in it and even trying to knock it over with light force it rocks back and forth a few times before stopping. The only thing that could be a negative is that if you take out the drain plug completely the drain bolt from your car could theoretically fall in there, (~.8-.9" opening with cap off) although it's very unlikely. That is only a concern if you take the drain cap all the way off which you don't have to do.Overall, I can't think of a single complaint about this thing, just be ready to wipe it off after you're done changing oil but you'll be doing that regardless.Easily 5 stars

Almost perfect...
This is great oil pan. Wish it had an indention on the top where I could screw in the drain plug when in use so I don't loose it. Would also be nice if it had measurement graduations on the side so when you stand it on end you could see there was 1 gallon or 3, etc.

Big nice and sturdy wont leak
After 1 change it is a third full. There is a line that is not recommended to go above, my car holds about 4.5 or 5 quarts of oil. It saves me 2 trips to the oil recycle station. Time and money if you count gas to drive there. I love this thing so long as you dont leave the air valve open or the cap off, it will not leak at all and is thick plastic so it will be hard to puncture. Best oil pan just also have some shop towels to clean it off when finished

Lackluster Performance! More trouble than it's worth!
What I expected:I was really excited to get a new oil pan after accidentally running over my old round one with a spout that I had used for 20 years. I liked the idea of having a pan that would contain the oil once it got in the pan in case it got bumped around to avoid spills. The idea of not needing to dump it in a bucket right away was nice too. The slim design would help with storage in the vertical position. The larger size should catch most of the oil being drained. What I got:The pan didn't work out as expected.1. The actual pan area is not large enough to catch all the oil when draining from a suburban. When I first pull the drain plug, the oil will shoot out about 16-18" then will slowly go back to falling straight down. Trying to catch the oil in the pan does not allow for hitting the pan at first and catching any drips that may occur after initially pulling the plug. It also initially shot over the side of the pan due to the shallow pan. The pan needs to be about 20-24" to achieve proper capture in this instance. Because of the small pan size, it spilled over both edges of the pan and oil ended up all over the ground. With my old round spout pan, I was able to do this without spilling a drop.2. The pan depth is not deep enough. Along with problem #1, the oil splashes out and over the sides of the pan. Again, with my old pan this wasn't a problem. This would lead to more splashes of oil hitting the floor and making the sides of the pan all covered in oil. It also splattered oil on me as I was laying next to it. A simple design change to make the pan deeper would solve this and would help #1.3. It needs to be cleaned to store it in any orientation other than flat on the floor. You will need to leave it sit flat on the floor for a day or two before even thinking about tipping it up. I anticipated having to clean it prior to tipping it up, but you would need quite a few paper towels to clean it up initially after using. Even after leaving it sit for a couple days, you still have a fair amount that needs cleaning prior to tipping it up. If you don't oil will drip down the sides onto the floor. This product could be greatly improved if the made the pan longer and the top pan portion deeper. Loosing a little bit of capacity inside the pan would be a small price to pay for making it deeper and avoiding the issues I listed above. This is a great idea for a product but poor design makes in not very useable for many applications. This would work great for changing oil on a lawn mower, ATV, or Motorcycle, but not for any type of vehicle with horizontal drain plugs. A vertically mounted drain plug may not have to deal with Problem #1 listed above, but you would still get the splash and splatter going everywhere.I don't like writing negative reviews for products, but for the money, I expected a lot more out of this. I've been doing my own oil changes on and off for 25 years, so not a new process to me.I'll be buying a duplicate of my old round spout pan to use in place of this new one I got and used twice. It's just not worth the mess vs dumping the open pan into a 5 gallon bucket. I really did want this thing to work!

Good for changing oil and fluids, wide catchment area to avoid spills.
Large enough to avoid spilling oil while changing. Lots of storage capacity. Just be sure to store it flat when filled so it doesn't leak through the pan hole fitting.Would be even better if the screw fittings were leak proof and if there was a quart/liter measurement scale so you could verify how much fluid you have drained. I filled with 1 quart increments and marked the side with a permanent marker so I can tell how much transmission oil I drained.

Best plastic pan I have found
I wanted something whet the cap stayed screwed into place. I have tried many of the drain pans on the market and none have a screw cap that stays in place. This one does. It is clear/white so oil shows all over it but I could care less as long as it hoods oil which it does.

Built very poorly
After I put my oil in, found out the vent cap doesn’t close at all. Piece of crap. Get what you pay for. Buy higher quality

Very large storage capacity
Can fit all the oil from my motorcycle, truck, boat, scooter. One trip per year to dispose of oil. Oil splatters everywhere due to shallow catch basin. Other than that a perfect product. No idea why so expensive, but nobody else has such a nifty design. I think I just answered my own question.
