Sketching from the Imagination: An Insight into Creative Drawing

This book is magnificent. Some may say that it doesn't really contain any "instruction," but if you ask me, this book contains a WEALTH of knowledge and insight. Anyway, you can already make a reasonable judgment on how they made these beautiful sketches by noting the sort of mediums they used (white acrylic on toned paper + marker, etc.), and the artists clearly tell you exactly what's going on in their minds as they draw these out.This book will provide wisdom on the actual creative process, and the attitudes to approach your work with. Reading through this feels exactly like sitting next to one of these great artists and getting to listen to them ramble as they doodle in their sketchbooks. It's fantastic. If you're just looking for a how-to book on how to make a decent end product, this isn't the book for it. But in my opinion, this thing is a thousand times more valuable than any tutorial volume.I bought this because I saw that Marshall Vandruff was in it, and he's one of my favorite instructors at school. What I got was infinitely more than what I expected. This book is great! :D

This is another in this series and another excellent book. I love that it also shows who the artist is and I’ve got several in the series already and so far it does not disappoint, it just keeps getting better.

I love this book, it's more of a showcase than an instructional book, but there is such a diverse group of artists within the pages, you are going to find someone's style that you will like and can relate to. And they share how they arrived at some of their illustrations. The drawings are great and the succeeds in showing that any idea can produce some great art. All it takes is the imagination to get those ideas out of your head and unto the paper.

The book displays a range of fantastical and realistic works by many talented artists. The text complements the sampling of drawings to give a picture of the artists thinking and approach to his or her work. I enjoyed reading about artists that I knew and look forward to searching out more for the artists the book introduced me to.If you enjoy a bit of whimsy, a touch of the sinister, and a lot of humor backed up by serious talent, you will enjoy Sketching from the Imagination.

These books are incredible. I have almost every Sketching From The Imagination title. They serve as a great Kickstarter when I’m feeling creatively blocked, and are an inspirational read otherwise. I highly recommend each and every one of them. I bought this copy for my niece, who loved my copy so much that she needed one of her own.

I don't normally submit reviews but I felt that this book was a little vague in the description. First off I love 3DTotal and I have all their other books. So when I saw that they were coming out with this book I was excited to finally see a book that would help me with drawing from my imagination. That is fundamentally the problem I have with this book, it is not an instruction book so much as a collection of drawings and some brief insight into how the artists came up with them. I would have much preferred this as an instruction book, which is what I originally thought this was when I bought it and hence the 4 star rating. That being said this is a beautiful book. It is packed full of beautiful drawings that just make you want to pick up a pencil and draw so from an inspiration point of view this is fantastic. If you are buying a book merely for inspiration then you can't go wrong with this and as I said if I had not been looking for an instruction book then this would definitely have gotten 5 stars.

A wide sampling of artists and their sketching style. It's less of a how to than a portfolio of various artists and their tips on how to add vital details to your work. I found the art to be inspiring and gorgeous!

I completely love this book! I am a self taught artist! I'm starting school for it next feb and I'm just learning painting skills! This book is so good for though not confident enough. I love this book. The scratches in it is amazing! So is the available info. I definitely am gonna purchase the other 2 books!

Es un libro que contiene excelentes imágenes de diferentes artistas, explica algo sobre la ilustración cada artista, pero no es un libro que enseñe a dibujar con algún estilo, si eso es lo que buscas, esto no es para ti. Sin embargo es un buen libro para que tú mismo puedas observar y analizar la obra de diferentes artistas sin que este libro te lo sugiera.

El libro es maravilloso.gran cantidad de ilustraciones de distintos estilos y temáticas.320 páginas.algo negativo es lo de siempre,😔.viene golpeado y deteriorado como tantas veces....deberían ser más cuidadosos con los envíos,quizá lo cambie pero bueno.aun así,libro espectacular.

An interesting collection of artists who share their approaches to their respective pieces and their work in general. It’s a good springboard for discovering a variety of illustrators. Will buy more in the series. Excellent.

Ottimo prodotto, arrivato in anticipo sui tempi di consegna. È un bellissimo manuale ricco di illustrazioni di diversti artisti. Dal mio punto di vista è ottimo per chi è in cerca di ispirazione. Poco consigliato per un beginner in cerca un vero e proprio manuale tecnico che insegni come creare le figure da zero ma, per chi è già in possesso dei rudimenti del disegno anche basic, lo consiglio vivamente. All'interno del volume ci sono illustrazioni diversissime grazie alle quali cercare e creare il proprio stile o semplicemente per allenarsi sulle impronte di artisti professionisti. Manuale composto da 310 pagine. Qualità prezzo ottima. Non reperibile nelle librerie. Qualità della carta ottima.

I ordered this book as a source for inspiration on my own drawings and sketches. For this price this is a fantastic deal. The book covers a lot of very different artists and the selection of sketches is also very good. Book binding quality is fine, the paper seams a little cheap, but it’s fine especially for this price. I’ll be getting a few more books from this series.
