A Quick Guide to Teaching Second-Grade Writers with Units of Study (Workshop Help Desk)

This book was like an overview of how the Lucy Calkins Units of Study could be tailored to meet 2nd grade needs. It was very general and did not have the specific, detailed lessons like you would find in the Units of Study collection. It would not be helpful for someone who was not familiar with Writing Workshop, but it did have some helpful information about what the scope and sequence of WW could look like in second grade.

This is a great supplement to Teaching Writing Across the Curriculum. However I teach in an at risk community and this is above my 2nd grade students capability. They are a year to two behind grade level however and many are ESOL students. I can take the ideas and modify them though.

Loved it!!!! If you’re going to teach Writer’s Workshop this is a good way to start.

THIS BOOK IS OK. I WANTED TO HAVE A GOOD OVERVIEW AND EXAMPLES TO STUDY BEFORE I IMPLEMENT THE PROGRAM IN MY CLASSROOM IT WAS NOT HELPFUL.

Awesome little book for teaching writing to second graders. Easy to read, too! I recommend it to all teachers of 2nd grader writers.

This book provides very practical and specific information for teachers of second-graders who are using Calkin's Primary Units of Study. As one of those teachers, I consider this book a must-have.
