Rivals Much More Expensive Knives
I've been shopping for a camping pocket knife for a while. I have a Morakniv full tang knife that I love, but it's a bit intimidating to carry on hikes where we pass other hikers. I wanted something a little less noticeable, but still very usable. Most knives I found cost hundreds of dollars, or were ugly, or were flimsy, or had a very small blade. At around $30 this knife is an excellent value. The blade is big enough to be useful, but not so big that it draws attention. PROS: - Good quality knife - Slim enough to easily slide into a pocket - Has a good shape that's easy to hold firmly - Good size blade at 3.5" long by 1" wide - Excellent clip that can be put in any of four positions (either side, either end) - Good thumb knob to quickly open the blade - Beautiful olive green color - Feels solid (no wiggle from the blade, sturdy handle, etc.) - Comfortable to wear in front jeans pocket with the clip out CONS: - Probably a bit heavier than more expensive options; weighs 141 grams / 5 oz Overall, I'm very happy with this knife.

Best knife for the money.
Absolutely a great knife. You will hard pressed to find a better knife for the money. Aus 8 is a great blade steal that holds an excellent edge for a long time. The knife has super smooth action and easy to flick open with a twitch of the thumb. You can set the clip up any way want and there and it easy to open with either hand. We have 2 of the smaller model II knifes for a number of years and they have been so great that I figured I would order the “daddy”(model I). It is what I expected. A bigger version of a great knife. They all arrived sharp enough to shave the hair off my arm. The oldest knife(3 years) still gets great. Model I is pretty large yet still pretty slim. I have had no discomfort carting every day with blue jeans. Model II is for you if you worried the I is too large. carries great in dress pants or small pockets. The first knife that was shipped was the wrong knife. The label/sticker was in the wrong box. Amazon shipped a second knife right away and it was correct.

Sturdy and sharp.
Maybe not pretty, but an excellent every day working knife.

Classic work knife
So as part of my never-ending pocket knife obsession I purchased one of these mostly because I felt like I should have one. Ontario rat has been around for a long time and it’s easy to see why it is still a very popular knife. My only gripe with it is that it is only AUS8 steel which is easy enough to sharpen doesn’t exactly hold an edge all that long. Now this is a large knife, so I don’t typically carry this one every day, but this has become a good vehicle knife as it would be good for stronger tasks or something where you need a bit more leverage or a longer blade. I also like to take this one with me when I go camping. Now I heard some people didn’t like the fact that it doesn’t have bearings, but this knife flips open with minimal effort at all if I didn’t know better I think it was on bearings. I like the blade shape I like the jumping and that slightly raised area for your finger to rest on. The handles are absolutely fantastic. Very comfortable Ergonomic, and I like the fact that you can reposition the clip. I prefer mine tip up, but I know there are some strange individuals out there that prefer to still carry tip down so you do have that option much as you would on some Spyderco models. The price is not terrible, but I do find that the D2 version of the rat two at least for me is a better value and knife as an every day carry. Now while we don’t have knife length restrictions on a pocket knife where I live it does tend to freak people out if I whip out and almost 4 inch knife. It’s a classic for a reason. It’s still around for a reason. It just works much like a lot of the Spydercos. It doesn’t have the super steel but honestly, if you know how to do basic sharpening, you should have no problem maintaining this knife for many years. This will be a great work knife so even though it’s old, it’s still a great knife.

One of the best knives I own
I've avoided buying this knife because it was considered "cheap" and I consider myself a collector. I own a couple of OKC wraiths which feel cheap and I just use them as box openers, but the Rat is definitely not in the same category. This thing is the real deal. It's a bit larger than I expected, but still smaller than some of my EDC knives. It's sturdy, has a great blade, decent scales (that are easy to modify) and a multi-position clip (I'm a lefty and that matters to us). Do yourself a favor - if you're a collector and you think your taste exceeds this knife, spend a couple bucks to prove yourself wrong. If you're just someone looking for a great knife for a great price, pull the trigger and treat yourself to what is likely the best deal on a blade, period. OKC, if you read this, I'd buy most of what you produce if you made it as solid as the Rat.

Great knife, well made and sharp!
For around $40, you would be hard pressed to find a better EDC. It rivals the higher priced competition.

Quality, perfect fit and finish
I really like this knife. It is solid and very nice quality. Fit and finish are perfect. It feels substantial, but not too heavy in the pocket. The blade is made of a decent steel.
