Great entry level kit!
I bought this 2 stone (4 grit) set as my first venture into using whetstones. I’ve previously maintained straight razors, so I understand the concept of putting an edge on steel. I would consider this set to be a very good beginner set of whetstones. You can put a very good edge on a knife with them. In my first afternoon, I sharpened three paring knives, two 8” chefs knives and 2 blades on an old Swiss Army knife. On all but one chef knife, I had to reset the bevel using the 400 grit. The other chef knife (a Henkel) had a small chip so I had to remove a good bit of material to get a clean edge. None got “straight razor” sharp, but none of then are straight razors either. All are perfectly capable of handling kitchen duty, better than they have in years. About the set itself: The stones are decent sized and are as advertised. They came reasonably flat, but after soaking, I used the fixer stone to get them completely flat, plus chamfer off the edges so as not to get snagged by a blade. They seem fairly soft, and can gouge fairly easily, but I have no frame of reference since these are my first whetstones. This is probably undesirable normally, but for a beginner, that kind of instant feedback on your technique is useful, IMO. If you listen to the sound of each stroke, you can tell when you’re getting it right. Keep rewetting them as you work. The white 8000 grit stone seemed to load up on metal quickly. The silicone rubber holders hold the stones well and fit inside the bamboo base nicely. I like the base more than I expected. So, bottom line, as a beginner set of whetstones, these get a 5. This does NOT mean they’re on par with the more expensive stones, and that’s okay. Starting with no experience but with a little understanding of the process, I was able to put good, functional edges on several knives. Were they perfect? Heck no! But that’s more due to my inexperience than the stones. I’ve got a lot to learn and skills to develop before the stones become the limiting factor. With practice and a good strop, and the right blades, I’m sure these stones can put a “scary sharp” edge on a knife. So far, I’d say they’re a good value. I’ll get the rest of my kitchen knives done this weekend.

Great value starter kit!
I never tried sharpening any knife with whetstones before. I bought these because I had several old knives sitting in a drawer that were terribly dull and I was bored during the stay at home orders and wanted to try something new. These stones seemed pretty good for my first try. The rubber holder and the bamboo base are very stable. The chef's knife I tried first had several bad chips in the blade and I started with the 400 grit stone and used all the different stones to get a pretty good sharp blade. I was please how well it got the chips out. I wasn't able to get it absolutely razor sharp but I think that's just my novice skills. I tried it on a smaller knife starting with the 1000 grit which also came out pretty well. It does take a good while especially on badly dulled blades to fix the issues, build up the edge with the different stones and get used to the technique. The stone shaper tool came in handy to even out the stones after lots of sharpening and works very well. Overall great kit at a great price!

Good stone set
The stones got here on time and were well packaged. Each printed grit seems accurate, and they fit well with the base. Definitely not much in the way of information, you will need to learn how to use a whetstone through other guides if you don't know already. Did a fantastic job on both pocket and kitchen knives in a variety of stainless steels (440c, 420, etc.). My only concern is that the 400 grit seemed to lose a lot of material (a fine dust like particle in the water that was blue like the stone, not grey knife metal) suggesting these stones may not have the longest lifespan which is the reason for four stars. Still, for the price, definitely worthwhile.

Wow have to say works pretty darn good
I have been sharping knifes for over 40 yrs with oil stones and diamond stones mostly and I must say water stones work nicely. I have not had this long but decided to try them out and didnt want to spend a lot of money on them.they work very well resharpened all my kitchen knifes and my chisels. Must say it does work a lot faster than oil for all processes of sharpening. As for diamond no, i still like my 325 grit dmt for fast profiling 600 grit for edging the knife and 1200 for good sharping of knife and finishing off with a arkansas 25 year old hard stone, but add the 8000 wet stone for polishing very nice. Now for kitchen knifes I can see me using this much more often with a wider blade. I am now teaching my son to sharpen knifes and this is a very good set for him and i to use and much easier to use than the oil stones. I love my oil stones but you must learn to use them. water stones are way easier to use and understand

Durable, Creates Sharp Edges, and Worth the Money
I bought this whetstone set primarily to prepare and sharpen my mortise chisels. After putting a flat edge on the bottom of the chisels and then sharpening the edges of all of them, these stones did a fantastic job! All of my chisels now have a flat heel and they were razor sharp; none of the stones showed any sign of gouging or excess wear and are perfectly serviceable. The bamboo base held to the table without any slipping and the rubber boots for the stones held the stones in the base snuggly. I have not used the flattening stone, leather strop, compound, or sharpening guide but are nice to have in the event that I need them, may put my EDC knives on it to give them as sharp of an edge as my chisels. Overall, a very solid whetstone set for a great price!

this is a good set for those looking to start a set of stones. it has everything you will need for most applications. i found i had to give the stones a little bit of truing with the flattening stone first, but after a little polish and a good soak in a sink, the stones did a wonderful job of correcting my kitchen knives. i would reccomend finding a strop to replace the one that comes with the kit, however. i am used to sharpening a straight shaving blade, and the strop that came with this kit feels like it is low quality, and worse, isn't easy to keep centered on a hook like most bathrooms or kitchens would likely have them hanging from. good strops aren't that expensive though, and unless you need a razor sharpness, this strop works well enough. if you do need razor sharpness, i would reccomend getting a 10,000 grit whetstone and a good strop to supplement this kit. i have both of those, and i am very pleased of the results. shaving is now so much smoother and more comfortable from having a properly set angle and polish to my blade. full reccomendation to this set!

This product came to my doorstep fast. I put it to use as soon as I got it and sharpened my kitchen knives that were used and abused for years to the point that they were on my last nerves. These are not quality knives, but still can be and I made them really sharp and usable again. Instructions could be a bit better - there is an item, soap like something that I have no idea what's it for :-). Using the set requires some skill that can be attained after watching a few instructional videos and some practice. I am sure that in the future I will get a lot better. Set is an excellent value and much needed kitchen item. I recommend this set.

Great value for the money, and great starter set. Stones have good range of grit, and the stone maintenance tools included are helpful. I work as a prep cook in a busy kitchen, so these are getting used at least once a week to keep my knives where they need to be. Takes some getting used to for angles to be right, but does the job if you are patient. Soaking time is a little erratic at times, often needs longer than 5 minutes to be ready to use, but overall quite happy with my purchase.

You get sooo much value for your money! I was looking for stones recommended on youtube, but these weren't? I have no idea why not? They are better than any I have used before and for the price of one over-priced stone, you get 2 with so many choices! you can keep your knives sharp, or use the second stone, and really hone your craft and make your knives cut like butter! I definitely recommend these! And the bamboo base is very cute and anti-slip. I use a cloth underneath just in case.

I watched several YouTube videos on how to sharpen knives with Whetstones, seemed simple enough... well, it’s definitely an art, not as easy as it seems. Nonetheless, I kept at it and managed to get a decent sharpness on a few large kitchen knives. The smaller the knife the easier and quicker it was to sharpen. I even used it on a small axe and did a decent job. Then I had to use the grey ‘brick’ to level the stones back to flat. There are no Instructions for the honing leather strap and ‘wax’ so I had to Google that too. Overall, I’m happy with the kit for the price. It definitely takes lots of practice to sharpen knives properly and I’m nowhere near that level of skill yet, but this kit will help get me there.
