Nutcracker

Beautiful illustrations and design by Sendak; a book that adults can enjoy. It's not for toddlers as it's the original Hoffman tale and not a reproduction of the ballet for young children. A reading age of 10-11 would be best. This is not a picture book and can be enjoyed by children and adults alike.

A great, original story, with more details than are usually presented and it has wonderful, quirky illustrations. Would make a lovely present for little girls who have seen the ballet.

This book is a classic and I bought it for my grand-daughter for Christmas, at an amazing price. She was absolutely delighted with it.

Gorgeous book!

I came across this book in Portland, Oregon, while looking for a book for my ballet-crazy five-year-old granddaughter. I knew how much my own children had enjoyed Maurice Sendak's books, and was fascinated to read the story behind this particular edition of the Hoffmann story. I was so impressed by said granddaughter's enjoyment of the "real" tale told here, and the pleasure she got out of the details in the illustrations, that the Amazon copy of the book was the fifth I have bought since then - one copy for each of my children to read to their children ... Since the families live far apart - California, Texas, New York,Berlin, Barcelona, Wales - Maurice Sendak's "Nutcaracker" is more than a book, it's a family link.
