Astonishing detail
These are beautifully presented in every way. The level of details these things reveal is breathtaking. I'm hearing things in recordings I had no idea were there. These would be a steal at the original price but at £349 they are the bargain on the year.

Worth it
Build quality is superb, sound is a bit particular so it might suit some tastes but not others. My experience is that for vocal heavy and instrumental genres is fantastic, for more bass heavy genres might be a tad too thin for some. Overall, absolutely a must buy at this reduced price. Also, changing pads will severely impact sound, so be careful what you choose and experiment.

Focal Elegia Headphones.
Good quality, nice case supplied. The lead is much too short, you might need extension cable. It sounds great in my Naim set up.

Excellent clarity, sound stage and bass extension.
These are the best headphones I've ever owned. I have good equipment to pair with these including Chord Mojo 2 and the Chord Poly. I run all this through Roon, BubbleUPNP, Qobuz and Wavelet apps. It might seem like a lot but it gets me the best quality sound I can get. These headphones sound amazing, be it heavy metal, electronic or orchestral and everything in between. These are also closed back so I can go for walks, commute and even cycle with these on and nothing from the outside gets in. So, the big thing for most people is the price point. I got these on a discount so it might be wise to stick these on your wish list for a while and hold out for a better offer. The amazon.co.uk price is a little higher than it should be as you can get these cheaper elsewhere if you shop around. But, I got these from amazon.co.uk at a good price so it is possible to bag yourself a bargain. Just one final though, Focal are a great company that make excellent audio products and they have been doing it for decades. Hope this helps you in your considerations.

Okay for a close-back model.
Bought for listening when incoming and/or outgoing noise would be a problem. The construction features necessary to minimise disturbance result in good thermal as well as acoustic insulation so the 'phones can get a little warm around the ears in a warm environment after an hour or so, but I can live with that. The clamping pressure on my head was just right for stability without discomfort. Sound quality is good for a closed-back design although inevitably not as good as would be expected from an open-back design. Build quality excellent. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase.

Quality will out.
How do you listen? I've listened for more years than I care to remember. I am mainly a headphone listener. I could be called an audiophile. Certainly I can detect bad reproduction immediately. Some 40 years ago I entered a Wi-Fi shop. After leaving I realised how important the music source is. Before then although I loved my music after I knew what it was to fall in love with the music. I had been sat down and given the chance to listen, to really hear the emotion. These Focal Elegias will as they are doing for me allow the emotion of a song to be with you. But, back to the source. If you play cheap nasty equipment into these headphones you will get cheap nasty sounds. If you are playing vinyl, get a decent record player. If you are playing CD's get a decent CD player. If as most do these days you have a digital source, mobile phone or laptop etc, get a decent digital audio converter. Then, and only then will these headphones show you what they can do. And they can do one hell of a lot.I've had my Elegias for a while now. I play a digital source from lossless audio files ripped from my CD collection.I'm fortunate to have an Astell&Kern SR 35 player. I am also fortunate to have a Chord Mojo 2 DAC. Plugging the Elegias into this combination is outstanding. The detail is wonderful. The bass for which I have read in reviews as lacking is there. The emotion is there in abundance. There was a run in period for the headphone. I never have been able to figure out why Hi-Fi needs to run in. But all the kit I've e had over the years has needed a run in. ITo conclude, these are quality headphones. Just feed them a quality source.
