tutto secondo le aspettative. Una buona lettura in lingua inglese per chi ha già una discreta conoscenza e vuol restar allenato.

エドガー・アラン・ポーは探偵小説の元祖である。本書はポーの探偵小説 TheGold Bug, The Stolen Letter, The Murders in the Rue Morgue のほか、TheFall of the House of Usher などの tales of terror が収められている。The GoldBug は、砂に埋もれていた一枚の皮から偶然謎の暗号があぶりだされ、それを解読した男が Captain Kidd の埋めた莫大な財宝を発見する話。The Stolen Letter (原題は Purloined Letter) は、警察が完璧な家宅捜査を行っても発見できなかった盗まれた手紙をムッシュー・デュパンが持ち前の推理力を働かせて見事に取り戻す話。本書はかなり易しく書き直されている。原文と比較してみよう。たとえば、(原文)　I was enjoying the twofold luxury of meditation and a meerschaum, in　company of A.(本書)　I was enjoying a quiet smoke with my friend A.英語力を養うには、やさしい英語をたくさん読めと教わったが、話が面白くなければ多読などできっこない。本書は、天才作家の代表作が収められ、楽しく読めるところがよい。

期待どうりでしたが今度は、もっとレベルの低い作品も買おうと思います
