Yeah... I don't have to clean the dogs bowl daily anymore!
I have 3 dogs all drinking from the same bowl and it used to get so dirty I was having to clean it every day. I love this little filter, it saves so much time, now I only clean the bowl once a week. I clean the filter once a week also. I just rinse it out, swipe the inside with an old toothbrush, stick a cotton swab in the small hole to get out any gunk from in there and put it back together. I change the charcoal filter every 6 weeks and that works fine for 3 dogs. If you have fewer animals then you can probably wait longer to change it. You can adjust the flow rate to fit the bowl depth and whether you want more of a fountain effect which naturally makes more noise. One of our dogs is a rescue dog who was abused so she is scared of noises, I keep the filter at the bottom of the bowl and it barely makes any noise. She has no problems with it and drinks from it just fine as long as we keep the water level high. We simply pour some water in it whenever we go into the kitchen. Make sure not to let it run dry or it'll ruin the motor. This is one of my favorite purchases, something I never knew I needed but now don't want to be without. It's inexpensive and as long as you clean it it works great. I highly recommend it.

Takes up less space and is whisper quiet.
I purchased one of these and liked it so much I came back and purchased another. I have owned various cat drinking fountains in the past, the main drawback on them were the amount of space they took up, and the inconvenience of getting at the pump for cleaning (and the pump must be cleaned on a regular basis). This filter pump I can put in the bowl of my choosing and it is so easy to take apart and clean as well as set up. It is also very quiet. My last fountain had a stainless steel bottom and top which was nice looking, but the top and bottom would shift and vibrate together and increase the noise level. The cat also tended to splash water around with previous pumps so I had to be very selective about where I set them up, so it did not ruin any wood.I put this filter pump in a 1 quart glass mixing bowl, and I can adjust the water level enough just to maintain a ripple or give it more of a bubbling/running effect. I put the bowl on top of a piece of cork or foam pad shelf liner and that completely eliminated any vibration between the bowl and the surface it sat on. I love that it takes up half as much space and is whisper quiet. One of my cats loves to drink out of the running faucet in the bathroom and she took to this immediately, just like she has with all other drinking fountains I have used. My 1 year old cat had never seen anything like it before and was a bit timid of it at first, but he now uses it just fine too. I know how important extra moisture is for cats to help prevent renal disease, and the moving water does make them interested in drinking more water.I find the replacement filters for this are more expensive than the filter cartridges I was using on my stainless steel drinking fountain, which surprised me because these filters are much smaller in size than the ones I previously used. Perhaps these smaller filters are more dense with charcoal and do a better filtering job. Either way, I still like this filtration system far better than any of the complete drinking fountain kits I have tried in the past.

He drinks more water!
Overall I like this, it's nice that you can just add this to a bowl instead of getting a built in bowl and fountain. This also means you can remove the device easily to clean it.At first my cat seemed a bit freaked out (though intrigued) by this, but he really would drink more water with it! So very effective. The downsides- I had to get a bigger bowl than I was using. The images for this show it in a tiny bowl that has the device taking up most of the bowl, with low edges on the bowl- don't see how that would work with this device. I mean, it will run- I had it in the smaller bowl first but found it was very slowly sending water over the edges onto the floor. So I got a bigger and deeper bowl to prevent that. The sound of the water does get louder the lower the water level is, so best to make sure you are refilling the bowl frequently. The biggest issue I had though was after a few months of use, I took this out to rinse it off as I would do to keep it clean, and found it had developed a layer of slimy material all over it. I started to wash it off but it was clearly throughout the system, not just on the outside, so I figure will have to buy a new one. I was surprised and disappointed though since I had been taking it out and cleaning it off regularly it seemed it should not have happened. Guess if I buy a new one I will remember to wash it even more often.Edit: lowering my review because I can't find filter replacements on amazon. I've tried running this without the filter but it builds up this slime all over it much more quickly. I really like this in general, but unfortunately without being able to change the filter it's not as great.

Drinkwell Hy-drate Cat Fountain pump
For the money, this is a great little pump that keeps the water circulating for the cats to drink from. I have 5 cats, they all love drinking fresh water. This fountain really does the trick, although, I will say that one pump doesn't really provide a lot circulation in my 1 gallon stainless steel bowl. To get around that minor issue & because the fountain pumps are so reasonably priced, I bought a second & put them both in the giant bowl together. Using both at the same time (in a larger bowl like mine) definitely provides enough circulation to keep the water fresh & the cats interested in drinking it. I'm sure if you have 1 or 2 cats & do not use such a big bowl, that 1 pump would be fine. The pump is very easily put together & taken apart for cleaning & changing the filter. I like the cats to drink as much as possible, especially during the hot summer, so I replace the charcoal filters every other week & give them a thorough rinsing out after 1 week's usuage. I clean the entire pump housing unit once a week & it is dishwasher safe. The actual pump is NOT diswasher safe; I take that apart (very easily) & let it soak in a cup of hot water with a little Dawn dishwashing liquid & a tiny splash of white vinegar. The vingear is great for cleaning most household products safely, naturally & effectively - plus a little goes a long way.

It's OK!
The media could not be loaded. After spending so much money buying almost every water fountain, I have yet to find one water does what it says! Filling up a stainless steel or ceramic bowl and change it every day with fresh water would be more effective and SAFER than using these things. In another word, I find none of these SAFE when it comes to filtration!I don't have time to "reinvent" the wheel or learn how to build my own watching thousands and thousands of videos on youtube! Most work and look stupid!SO, I came up with my. own. It filters, provides bubbles (O2) but I still put a reminder to wash everything including both filters! And, every 3 weeks I change the filters. They run 7 x 24. Not noisy ... unless I sleep beside it.P.S. Do all you can to ensure your furry buddy drinks from top part to get filtered water! I've blocked all access to big bowl so he uses the small bowl.

The cats like it, and it's much much easier to clean ...
I put it in a large steel bowl (about 1.5L) and leave it under a low table keep dust off it. The cats like it, and it's much much easier to clean than the large plastic all-in-one fountains. Bought a second one when one cat had to be crated while recovering from surgery. Very pleased with them.
