The Notebooks (The Sketchbooks) Hardcover – Illustrated, May 26, 2015

As I a designer/artist I can appreciate the detail in this piece of art. I'm amazed at the perfect imperfections such as the ink bleeding through the page and what looks like watermarks. It's so beautifully put together. The inside back cover seems to have Basquiat DNA particles it seems so real. I'm so glad I "splurged" on this little gem. lol. I saw the Basquait Notebooks exhibit at Brooklyn Museum years ago and this looks like the real thing. Way underpriced! Museum shops would charge 75 plus I'm sure lol. Thank you Larry Walsh. This is perfection. I may buy another one and leave it wrapped. Almost regret taking off the plastic but how else would I have read my favorite page - 'DO NOT DRINK STRICTLY FOR SUGARCANE'

This is a tough one to review for a couple of reasons. First of all, the book is barren. Most pages are practically empty. It's hugely unfulfilling, especially if you're a fan of Basquiat's work. But at the same time, this a reproduction of some of his ACTUAL notebooks. So to say you think this book is a waste of money due to lacking in content, it's kind of like saying you don't like Basquiat's notebooks haha. He just apparently kept very barren notebooks, jotting only a thought or two down on each page. There are barely even any sketches or artwork of any kind in here....which is doubly disappointing.So why buy it? I see it as an interesting artifact reproduction, something that is a fairly accurate representation of something originally kept by an amazing artist. It's just a neat idea that I wish publishers did more often. I love sketchbooks and notebooks.....now it would be amazing to see a faithful reproduction of a Da Vinci notebook...that would be amazing!!!!!

This adroitly assembled collection of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s lower school notebooks offers doodles, sketches and musings of this seminal artist. Even his penmanship can bring a smile, a wistful shrug. A super value as a coffee table book too. It’s a joy.

After seeing a whole room with JMB’s actual notebooks displayed page by page at the Barbican this year, my biggest wish was for a book like this. The reproductions are high quality and accurate to the originals. The price and cover are very attractive; I hope this book brings as much joy to fans of post-modern Impressionism as it did to me. Highly recommended for casual and serious art exploration.

If you’ve found yourself drawn to the works of Basquiat this book is for you. I have had a few Basquiat art books forever. This reproduction of a series of his composition books allows you to learn more about pieces you’ve seen over the decades. Book itself (hardcover) is full of pages and notebooks in near perfect reproduction. Only thing that beats the quality of this book are the hidden gems inside of it.

It almost looks like what I’d imagine the real thing would look like. I got it for myself but this would be a great gift for someone who like Basquiat. This book could easily sell for a lot more money, but I appreciate the price for what the images in the book are worth.

Product is great - new and as described, but it was damaged during delivery. A corner of the book is bent/smushed permanently.

Amazing book! I gifted this to my boyfriend who loves the artist and he was so excited. The pages are so realistic and full of such interesting doodles and notes!
