Q: Do you leave the water hose on?

Yes the water stays on until the bowl is full and the valve floats. That shuts off the water flow at the bowl, but the hose must remain on so when they drink and the water level falls the valve will allow water to flow again.

Q: How to adjust height of water in bowl? It leaks out of bowl and if this is not corrected then water every where

It has something to do with the setting on the float valve which I have not been able to resolve no matter what I try. Cannot leave water on for the same reason you have experienced. I have tried to position the float at different settings and it has not solved the problem. I would like to get a refund, but I lost one of the two floats when I took it to Home Depot to make sure I got the right hose fittings.

Q: Does it come with the hose and the adapter?

No hose I used standard garden hose and mounted to the side of house. Works great

Q: How do you prevent algae from growing in the bowl? I clean it once a week but it just keeps coming back

Mine does the same thing. It gets slimy bc my horse typically drinks from his bucket so the water tends to sit and not be replenished often enough to keep the slime away
