Small but adds to the literature
If think Russo and Hudson are the only ones to read when it comes to the Enneagram. This is a small booklet of affirmations for each type, and at least for my type they seem right on, and useful. Recommend.

An Introduction to the Enneagram
This is not meant to be an in-depth explanation of the Enneagram. Don Richard Riso, who I consider to be the most knowledgeable, articulate and "user-friendly" voice in Enneagram literature, has written other books that will give more than enough detail for those with the time and interest for further exploration. I recommend completing the entire test in another book by Riso to anyone interested in digging into this unique, valuable, useful, insightful and rewarding way of studying human personality, both their own and others."Enneagram Transformations" gives enough detail on the nine personality categories to guide the reader into a preliminary decision about their specific type and follows those up with a series of "Affirmations" and "Releases" designed to move the reader in their direction of growth.I took the afore-mentioned test, determined my specific personality type, read the material in "Enneagram Transformations," noted the agreement between the two and began working on the "Affirmations" and "Releases."I turned to the first "Affirmation," which is, according to Riso, the one I most needed to absorb into my thinking. When I read it, I thought it could never apply to me. The message was so foreign to my way of thinking about myself, that for several days, it was impossible for me even to commit this simple phrase to memory. Riso, based on his thorough understanding of the Enneagram's personality types, knew this was what I most needed to hear and my difficulty with my "Affirmation" proved him right. That one insight is well worth the price and the time required to study this book.Socrates said, "An unexamined life is not worth living." "Finding Flow" by Mihaly Csikszentmihaly, "Man's Search for Meaning," by Viktor Frankl and anything by Don Richard Riso are essential tools for that all-important examination. "Enneagram Transformations" is a great way to begin.

Learned a great deal about myself and psyche
Writing this review is also an act of transcending my personality as a thinker. I find the book as good foundation for anyone looking to see clearly through his/her personality and the shadows associating with it. We are multidimensional as human beings, the types can only reveal what you accept to see in yourself. You can look for absolute truth or part of the truth which is why this book is providing. A way to deal with part of us that we hide.

Practical application of the enneqgram
There is a brief summary of each of the enneagram types followed by some statements of release unique to that type. These are followed by positive affirmations for the higher qualities a person of that type might choose to develop. Very practical and useful for those familiar with the enneagram who know which type they are.

Handy Reference
This is a handy, and quick, reference for identifying the greatest challenges of each Ennea Type, as well as the opposite positive qualities that each type can express. There are no givens in personal growth; too many people remain emotionally immature when they cross out of this life, but for those capable of insight, understanding, and growth this little book is helpful for understanding where we, our friends, and family need compassion--as well as a kick in the proverbial a--.I have most of Riso's books and I like this convenient book. But there is more to growth than just knowing the levels of health and disintegration within a type. In conjunction with the Enneagram, I recommend Robert Moore's King, Warrior, Lover, Magician on the Jungian archetypes. They are like an umbrella over each of the Ennea types.

Useful for daily use
Found the affirmations useful for reviewing daily and when in stress. It’s not a magic bullet and will require consistency. But overtime, it will bring more awareness of the shadow side of your type, and help you to release it, and keep releasing it.

The only way out is through.
This is the theme of this little gem. This short primer is a wonderful supplement to those who know or are relatively sure of their Enneagram type to help us on our journeys of healing. I look forward to using these releases and affirmations in my own journey.

Ready to go a little deeper
I took my Enneagram last year but did not do much with the ‘results.’ This year, I have decided I am ready to go deeper into understanding my type and true opportunities for Growth. Riso’s overview was a great refresher. The affirmations and releases are powerful tools to use.
