The best aquasoil
I've tried damned nigh all of themThis one is the best. You actually don't have to wash it. It's my go to.

Good for beginners
If it’s your first time like it was mines this is a really good product. All you need is about 2inches as a base and river Sand on top. Then rocks and drift wood and some live plants. Start with guppies they have a stronger survival chances.

Plants are happy. My first attempt at live aquarium plants
I'm fairly new to aquarium plants, but this substrate seems to be working very well. I have 10 plants and only one has died (I think I put it where it didn't get enough light). I have one plant growing almost an inch a day. I put it in a 75 gallon tank and I think I need 2-3 bags to get the required depth. Instead, I just put my other rocks on top, mainly to hold some of the more floaty plants down.If this noob can do it, then you have a pretty good chance at success.

One warning that isn't on the bag
This stuff is fine, attractive, dust free, did not have to be rinsed and did not cloud tank at all. the few floaters there were settled down quickly and it's as easy to plant in as anything I suppose. I got three nano tanks worth out of this bag so decent value. I took off a star for the warning the bag does not have. This stuff will cause an ammonia spike even in a cycled tank. Makes sense when you think about it, and apparently it is common knowledge that this happens with these soils when I went looking for the cause of my deadly high ammonia on planted tank forums. So, my bad for not researching but they have other warnings on the bag so I really feel like that one ought to be there too. Anyway, no harm done thanks to the low ph of my tap water and I moved the fish as soon as I realized. The ammonia level are trending down and I'll put the fishies back when it is safe. All the plants I put in it are doing great so I do think it's a good product. Tips from forums I visited were to put the stuff in a bucket with some water for a couple weeks and let the ammonia leech out, doing frequent water changes.

Best planted substrate!
Great soil! Washed before I used and did 1 100% water change, and it has been clear ever since. Shrimp safe. Have successfully grown many plants in this including:AnacharisDwarf hair grassCryptsJava fern WindeløvAverage java fernStaurogyne repensBaby tearsAnubias (roots grew off log into substrate)Have even grown some mystery plants as well! About to use it again on another 10 gallon. My new favorite substrate! Would recommend to any nano tank. I use it with the Aquarium Concepts root square fertilizer. Both work great for my fish and shrimp! And cost effective too!

Great substrate, great value
My aquatic plants love this stuff. I'm terrible at growing terrestrial plants, but I've seen huge success in my planted aquarium with this substrate. You really don't need to rinse it too much, that gets rid of many of the nutrients. Just make sure to cover it in a layer of aquarium pebbles or some other substrate so it doesn't seep into the water too much and make it murky. You shouldn't have any trouble with this stuff if you know what you're doing.

Looks great. Parameters are stable.
I bought this before the price increased to do a reset on a couple of marineland portrait tanks, one for a friend and one of mine. They both looks great and the soil continues to buffer the water just fine. PH (according to the API test) stays around 6.6 (could be 6.5 but it's definitely higher than 6.4). It did take longer for the tank to reestablish than other soil tanks I've set up. There was crazy diatom growth for a good six months. Most of my crypts melted, but that's how crypts do. They're all fine now. Once all that settled, I FINALLY got my first blue bolts and shadow pandas and they have been doing very well for just over six months. The parameters are still stable.
