It’s a direct fit and no need to modify
It was for my older Cub Cadet

Low quality part received, watch who you buy from!
Item arrived and the back plate was obviously separating with the rivets not in fat enough to hold the unit together. Installed anyway and it didn't work. This was after the seller Rare Electrical had engaged in some other deceptive practices charging me $40 to ship this small part to a US address.I replaced with the starter solenoid from a Leyland Mini and it worked great!
