Garden Witchery: Magick from the Ground Up (Ellen Dugan's Garden Witchery, 1)

As a solitary practicioner I was constantly looking for a spot that felt right (if you don't know what I mean, well, it'd take too long to explain) but the point is that I hadn't found it. Sadly, the last place I felt that was at my grandmother's (250miles away) and wasn't sure I could re-create that. Well, this book showed me how! I had a lot of questions answered in this book and most definetly will be getting her other books. The book is easy to read, makes a LOT of sense and can be just the thing that us gardenless witches need to get a jump start back on track. I also highly recommend her book, Cottage Witchery - another excellent read and again, such a helpful book! Honestly - if you have an inkling that you're magick lies in the garden or the hearth, but you've never practiced in a place like that I very much getting this book and reading through it. It can help you find the best place for you!

I am not a witch - though some have said..well, never mind. I buy all of Dugan's books. I don't practice the spells or charms but I enjoy reading about them AND I am a gardener. This book gives valuable information about planting at certain times, where to plant, what to plant - how to decorate your garden to enjoy it. This book is a charm - and so is Ms. Dugan. She's a fun writer and a wonderful addition to my garden book shelf.

I haven't gotten all the way thru this book yet, but I have to say that so far I like it. The main thing I like is that it's not boring! I like the author's way of writing and the book just has a magical feel to it. Makes me want to make something more of my garden and yard. Yes, it's from Llewllyn (sp?), but don't let that discourage you. If you're well practiced, it's old hat for you and is a nice refresher. If you're new to it, it's pretty entertaining. Remember, all of this should be taken w/a grain of salt and you are ultimately the one who decides if you like it or not.

Ellen's writing style is so much fun. You just get lost in the book and have fun with it. She's is very informative in her craft and gardening.

When I first received the book ,some of the pages glue did not hold, but the seller gave me a refund. I love the book and am happy with my purchase.

This book was very informative although I'm only starting off with bits and pieces bc there is a lot you can possibly do!!! Not finished but it's 5 stars for me still.

I spent a lot of time carefully picking my selection of books and glad this is one of them. This is a great introduction book for those looking to expand their knowledge on magical plants and herbs. Along with a lot of starter information on planting with the moon cycles and the properties of each plant. Dugan also gives a lot of information to help the reader find where to expand upon the knowledge gained from this book which I thought was a terrific help. The writing style is friendly and easy to follow, I read this book in a day as I could not put it down. I love that she injects a lot of her own personal experiences and personality into her writing rather than feeling as though you're reading a textbook. I feel her personal experiences really helped put things into perspective beyond belief and taught me a lot. Each section of course is a little limited, but she is trying to put a very large amount of information into the book for a vast area of subjects so only being able to put what she can makes sense. But I feel it is great for those who are new and a good read for the more experienced. Dugan always supplies a lot of crafty ideas on things to make also. All-in-all I would suggest this book, even if you know everything in it it is great to just hear some of her stories and wisdom.

With the advice in Ellen Dugan's Garden Witchery, you will have a garden space (no matter how big or small) that is your own in every way. Even if all you want is to grow some herbs for your kitchen, this book will help you grow the best little garden possible.

Having had an interest in wicca for many years, but a distinct lack in the area of green fingers, i thought it time to read up on 'garden magic.' I found this book on Amazon, and was delighted with it. Quite simply a magical read (no pun intended). Ellen Dugan's practical gardening advice is basic, sensible and yet full of the magical history of various plants, plus hints and tips on how to use each plant, and the various celebrations of each time of year. Her tongue-in-cheek personal annecdotes are a welcome breath of fresh air after the many fascinating but rather dry books on wicca, and i quite often found myself grinning, or even laughing out loud at her tales. Fascinating for either a seasoned practicioner or someone who is still a little green. Also it would make a great bridge for those who know little of the subject and who still see it with suspicion. My garden by the way has gone from a green wilderness to a (hopefully) magical and colourful (and fragranced) place to be.

It's been rare lately that I grab a book and can't put it down but this one I actually am enjoying a great deal! I great beginning look at using your garden as a tool to support a magical life. Also quite a fun read and the author is very down to earth and personable. Can't wait to get another of her books, I suspect they will be read over and over!
