Guardian Gear Vinyl Dog Rain Jacket with Reflective Strip, Medium, Blue

Got each one of my dogs one of these. Got my 21 pound Westie a medium and my 80 lb Bernese-mix an XXL. The XXL is too big, should have gone with next size down but it works. Comes with that overwhelming petroleum smell we all know and love SSOOOO much! Been hanging for a couple of days and it's slowly going away. That is the reason for 4 stars, not 5. It hasn't rained here yet but it's Oregon so I'll update this when I've made use of these items. I got these so my office didn't smell like wet dog after our noon walks.Pros:Appears well made. Rubberized material feels adequate and is backed with fabric, not rubberized material, so it should feel okay to even a short haired dog, not that mine have that issue.Fits the dog (the XXL is too large for 80 lb stocky Bernese-mix which is my overly cautious fault, the medium fits the Westie perfectly). The fit on my Westie looks just like the picture in the ad, includes about a 2 in overhang for the tail area. The tail overhang on the Berner-mix is closer to 5 or 6 inches.Material is strong enough for a 3 year run, which is all I expect.Elastic at neck helps keep water out.Has a "neckie" rather than a "hoodie". Neckie top has drawstring that I don't need with these dogs but someone with a slender dog might.Has opening for leash that seems to be in the right place - I haven't tried it yet.The chest covering is just right in length and has a reflective stripe. I had another brand of these covers for the Westie and he tripped over the chest covering because it was so long, so I'm really happy with this one.Also has reflective stripe across middle of back.Has pocket at top that I don't need but it's there.Belly bands appear well made. The material has hook & loop closure. I'll need to tweak it on the too big XXL but it's just fine for the Westie.Cons:1/4 in elastic for back legs on the Westie's might be okay but the same is on the 80 lb dogs and that won't last - I'll have to replace it at some near point.Strong petroleum smell that is slowly going away.

So I live in a state that rains A LOT and it's always fun when you're in the middle of a walk with your dog, kinda far from home and it starts raining out of nowhere! Yes, that happens quite frequently here. I decided my pup needed a rain coat after learning that a large umbrella just wasn't going to do the trick for both of us. I will admit that yes it did have a strong smell at first but I washed it a few times, and left it outside for a few days and after a while it went away. My only complaint is that the hat doesn't stay on, really doesn't fit past her ears so that part of the jacket is rather useless at this point. The straps that go around the legs to hold the jacket in place seem to fit fine and aren't too snug. I purchased an XL and my dog weighs about 58 pounds (trim, healthy not hefty or muscular) and it's a little long at the backside but I'd rather it be long than too short. Blue color is nice as well. It doesn't keep her dry underneath but definitely keeps the majority of the rain from drenching her. Might consider getting some booties if your dog will wear them to keep paws dry.

Excellent raincoat for my dog!!! Makes him look cute and cool cuz it's blue. About the size, last year I bought a yellow one XXL and it was huge on him. I have a Pit Bull with a long back, big chest and a bit tall, so this year I went a size smaller to an XL. It fits him really well, much better than the XXL because when he pooped with the XXL of used to rib on his coat and now I don't have that problem with the XL. It doest cover to the end of his back down his tail because my dog has a long back and it's going to depend on your dog's physical characteristics if it fits perfectly or is good enough. I really love my dog's new raincoat and it does fit him really well and the awful plastic smell that the other guy posted as a review saying that it stinks, it's not true. When I unwrapped it, I could smell a super strong smell of new plastic and yes it was strong, but I hung it on a hook and after a week of letting the coat air out and breathe, now the smell is totally gone. It just smells like new!! Hang it up and air it out and it's an awesome raincoat!!! I suggest you look at the breed for sizing for your dog.

My puppy, as many do, hates going outside in the rain. Not only is it stressful for him, but it makes him really stinky which we dont like. I needed a nice rain jacket for him that wasn't too thin, and would not only protect him from the rain, but also any winds. This jacket was perfect! It has a hole at the top so that you can slip the leash through, and a pocket for small things like treats or potty bags. On the bottom of the jacket is two elastics that can be used to support the jacket to the puppy's hind legs, as well as a hood that does a nice job of covering my pup's head without being too obtrusive to his vision. The only con I give is that the product STINKS of plastic, and hopefully that goes away after a few uses.FYI - My pup is a 9lb (6month old) Shihpoo. I usually purchase size small clothes for him, and this runs just a bit big. A xsmall would probably have worked better, but I expect him to grow a tad more.

Got the small size for my 11 lb maltipoo. It fits him great and I love the design. Elastic straps for the back legs are a brilliant idea. The only issue I have with this item is that it smelled so god-awful upon opening it I could barely stand to keep it in the house. I think it's just a poor grade plastic they use that has a very strong plasticky/chemically smell that is quite persistent. It's been about three days now and I've left it out on the porch and washed it in soapy water several times. The smell is still quite strong and even lingers on my hands after touching it. Not so sure I want this on my dog for extended periods of time. I will give the benefit of the doubt and hold onto it for a while. Maybe the material just needs to air out and cure some more. Will update my review in a few weeks time.update: In the end I had to send this one back. The smell was still very strong after several weeks and didn't seem like it was going to go away. Too bad... nice design but if they just used some better materials would be a great little rain coat.

Ordered the small one and returned it as it didn't fit. Reordered the medium one and it is too big. The sizing isn't good on this item.
