This is a compendium of the very latest DSM and it is a work of love, scholarship, art, and science all in one. I am so happy to have gotten the hardcover edition because it was worth it. I'm already referring to it in so many ways that if I'd bought the paperback, it would have been dogeared by now. This is a fantastic piece of work and I hope to see it become even more culturally inclusive when the next step comes up for the DSM V-TR, but for now, this is a vast improvement over the DSM IV-TR. Don't buy the paperback. For the few extra dollars, this is worthwhile. You will be glad in the end.

I give this book 5 stars because it is a helpful manual to use in research. The DSM-5 is a helpful tool that people can use academically, personally, and easily to gain a better understanding of mental disorders. Academically, students and teachers can reference material that can be used as concrete evidence for writing essays or scholarly journals. Personally, people such as family members, loved ones, and patients can use the DSM-5 to gain personal insight to what someone may be experiencing: making it easier to grasp the reality of what someone is really experiencing. The information in the DSM-5 can be easily accessed using the table of contents that quickly guides the reader to specific criteria that may be of concern such as a disorder. Thumbs up!

I used this book for one of my college courses. Well, it was required for one of my courses but I ended up going back to it for multiple other courses because of how informative and helpful it was. This was definitely one of my favorite tools to have on hand. The important thing to note, though, is that this is a diagnostic manual, not a classic textbook. It is not full of chapters and paragraphs to read like a typical book. It has some reading paragraphs sprinkled throughout, but it is mainly bullet point lists of criteria and symptoms.

I really wanted to rate 3.5. It shipped promptly, which was really nice. But I could have sworn the option I chose was new. The hard cover is used, the paper covers the binder and pages thin. First use and part of cover tore; it was over sized and kept slipping off. I used tape to secure paper to hard cover. The print on some pages is blurred. I feel short changed, but I need it, so I have to live with it. I just hoping that I don't find any missing pages as I progress in my reading assignments.

Cuando compré este libro de texto (que todos los que nos dedicamos a algo relacionado con la salud mental debemos tener) por primera vez fue en un Barnes & Noble en NYC. Ahí ya me costó 240 dólares. Muchos podrán decir “bueno, ya hay la versión en e-book pero yo siento que los libros tan importantes como éste pues prefiero tenerlo “en vivo”…. Además lo necesitaba en inglés ya que mis clases eran en inglés. Me tuve que jubilar por razones de salud y doné el mío. Cuando vi el precio en Amazon de más o menos 35 dólares (lo conseguí pasta dura en 750 pesos!) pensé seguro ya viene el típico DSM V-R o algo así. El DSM IV tardó muchos años en ser revisado y luego en durar otros años más en ser R: revisado. Por lo tanto dudo que saquen éste R en un buen tiempo. El libro es bueno simplemente porque si se quiere dar un diagnóstico en psicopatología debe cumplir con los criterios del libro. Si no está ahí, se trata de uno de esos diagnósticos de “chocolate“, de pop psychology o de la revista Cosmo. Así que un libro tan importante y necesario , en pasta dura (el mío era pasta blanda), de prácticamente 5,000$ a 750$, pues se siente por un lado felicidad y por otro que has gastado los mejores 750$ en tu vida. Lástima que llegó la pasta exterior desgarrada pero al final no importa tanto

Ha llegado perfecto y antes de lo esperado. No le faltan páginas y el encuadernado luce estupendamente. Un acierto.

Thank you for providing me with this textbook. I've been trying to find it for nearly a decade for a decent price, and it finally came and in good condition! Wasn't too keen on the smell that came with it, but some scent therapy fixed it right up lol
