The best handheld sharpener for colored pencils I've ever used
this is an excellent sharpener. I do a lot of work with high end colored pencils and they can be difficult to find the right sharpener for but I've finally found the one! It even works great for my favorite Derwent pencils. I have 10 higher end hand held sharpeners and this one is the best by leaps and bounds . Just a heads up though, I had to watch a YouTube video on how to detach the shavings tank as the packaging has no instructions. The video has over 100,000 views so apparently a lot of purchaser find themselves in this predicament. So you can google to find the video or you can just close the top of the sharpener and then put your thumb on the small raised arrow on the front of it and push up and the lid should pop right off the tank.

Hard to open but keep trying...
I previously submitted a one star review saying I hated this sharpener and that arthritic hands could not open it at all. Even after watching videos and hurting myself over and over no luck! My husband had a hard time at first but now can do it. Now he knows how he said he will do it for me and so I take back my bad review; it is a great sharpener now!

Been through them all and THIS is the one!
I buy so many sharpeners for my kids, my wife ,and myself. 90% of them are terrible and break the pencil tip or do that weird leaving wood around the tip thing. THIS ONE sharpens EVERY pencil to a fine point. You'd think that it shouldn't be this difficult to screw a blade onto a tiny metal box at angle, but so many companys mess it up.

Wider cutting angle = less broken leads
Although mine only just arrived and has yet to see extensive/real usage, initial tests are good! The common, everyday two-hole pencil sharpener has two different sizes of holes to accommodate different pencil diameters, but what nobody ever seems to tell you is that the larger hole also tends to have a wider cutting angle! (For example, 30° vs. 23°.) I immediately had to check this against the generic (but trusty) pencil sharpener I've been using for over 20 years . . . only to verify that not only does the larger hole indeed have a wider cutting angle, I've been sharpening my Prismacolors using the "wrong" (narrow angle) one the whole time! While the cutting angles on this branded sharpener do not look much different from the common everyday angles, and are certainly not the super-wide factory cutting angle seen on new Premieres (and I also think my measurements as shown in the photo below skewed a little wide), this sharpener nonetheless provides a wider-angle sharpener in a same-diameter hole as the common everyday sharpener, which an advantage in itself, compared to trying to sharpen pencils in a hole intended for larger sizes (if you were in school during the '80s then you probably remember the nuisance of those rotating size rings on the classroom sharpeners).Only one thing to keep in mind: When it is time to empty the shavings compartment, the lid can be tricky to remove. With other sharpeners the lid may simply unscrew rather easily, but on this model the lid pops open. Try to grip the lid from its sides, while gripping the base from its front and back -- this helps reduce pressure on the snaps that hold it in place, and should make it easier to open for emptying. In the below photo, I compared the angles of my common sharpener (A,B) against this Prismacolor sharpener (C,D) and a new (factory-sharpened) Premiere for reference.

A Must if you use Prismacolor Pencils
I urge to buy this sharpener if you buy the Prismacolor pencils. The sharpened point on the pencil is very fine after using this handy sharpener. It's easy to clean with a snap off lid, too.

Simple and convenient
My brother has this sharpener and it was so good I had to get on myself. I like how simple and elegant it looks. It's also convenient how it has a space to hold the trash

It broke, but that's kindof MY fault
Works very well. Best sharpener I own. I did at one point drop it and now it's cracked and chipped. But it still works!
