I Am Rene, the Boy (English and Spanish Edition)

Great book for K-1 students on accepting and developing own identify and individuality. It was great to get a great "used" book that also was signed by the author! My students are very much looking forward to us reading this on our Children's Day celebration.

Hilarious story. It brought back memories of how my Spanish speaking students (the boys) love coming to my clases because I'll intonate their names properly while their classroom teacher would say it as if it were a girl's name not male.Highly recommend this fun read. :-)

Love the story, but my book came in damaged. It had a torn page. I bought it as a new book.

Fun to read story about real life events. My kids loved it.

The book was not in a very good condition. It has a lot marks with green marker. It was not like they advertised.

This is a fabulous book from a wonderful author. I was very fortunate to see him in person at a local children's book fair. He is not only a talented writer, but also a very humorous presenter. This book is a great way to introduce children to cultural stereotypes attached to first names. I love reading it to my students at the beginning of the school year as we are getting to know each other and we learn familiar and unique names in our classroom.

Great book my kids loved it even though they don't speak Spanish - I used the Spanish to translate some words for them. The pictures are very well done and the story was interesting enough that when I was interrupted a few times they reminded me to continue with the story.This is a book we will take care of and keep for a long time ---

The story of the boy coming to America, finding a new life, and coming to find a new meaning in his strong name is lovely. The part where he is teased for having a "girls" name drives me nuts. Why is it so shameful to be compared to a girl? The mom tells him to not listen to the bullies as if she agrees having a girl's name is offensive. Then he realizes the two names are spelled differently and he is relieved and no longer offended. *eyeroll* I hope all the Aarons I've met didn't go home crying that they met a *girl* erin. Like with "you throw like a girl" and other phrases like that, I'm just so sick of girlness being considered inferior and offensive when applied to boys.
