An Extremely Helpful Book for Control Freaks
"Losing Control, Finding Serenity" is a self-help book about how being controlling - over people and events - disrupts the natural course of life and hinders life and relationships. This is a book for everyone, because almost everyone does some degree of controlling in their lives. This book will help you realize where you have been controlling in your life and how to be less controlling. It also discusses the author's past experiences as a controlling person and how his life is different since he stopped being controlling and began trusting in the natural "waves" of life. He speaks about how various aspects of his life - finances, relationships, career, and hobbies - has improved since he stepped out of the way and let life take over. His personality and perspective on life has improved by being less controlling. He has less stress and worry. He shares how you too can let go of control and find happiness and success. The book covers many topics that are helpful for losing control: what being controlling is like and how it hurts people, how to stop controlling behaviors, how to learn acceptance, how to embrace your personal truths, how to be less fearful and trust that life will turn out how it's supposed to, how to let go of anger and resentments, and how to stop avoiding tasks that you are apprehensive about. The book also describes and explains how to let go of control in certain parts of life, such as parenting, relationships, sports, the arts, and work. This book is well worth the small investment. It is full of information on control, examples of the author and his friends of their controlling lives and how they changed, and how to change your controlling behaviors and your controlling personality. This book has the power to change your life for the better. I learned a lot from it and I highly recommend it.

Interesting, but repetitive after halfway
This book gives insight on a lot of control related struggles I had. It illustrates a lot of good examples... BUT the author is a competitive, sport-loving businessman - which is absolutely fine of course, but I found myself not relating to several of the examples. Also, once you reach the chapter about control in the workplace, it all seems very repetitive/common sense. Also, it seems to get a little sloppy at that point. I zoomed through the first half of the book, but I have not finished the last few chapters yet because it has become rather boring. I will say that this book has impacted my life in extremely positive ways, and I would buy it and read it again in a heartbeat. Maybe it will benefit me a lot more to step away from the book for a while and re-read the last half of the book again. I recommend buying it; even if the examples are fit for your own life, the information between the examples is worth the read.

Great book
This is a great book. If you’re familiar with the twelve steps in AA, this will correlate! Even if you’re not, this book is helpful!! Recommend!

A good enough read.
Good read, easy to get through & had some valuable insights. Not earth shattering & he talked a lot about his experiences & how his life changed as he learned to release control, which was fine, just not super interesting or relatable to me.

Finding yourself after disasters
This is a definite to read when you are ready to get out of others' negative lives and find who you are. It's a great evaluation tool to lead you through a different, more positive rational for why we are where we are; what got us to this unwanted state of mind; and how you can change your thought processes, break the old and try something new for YOURSELF.Allowing yourself to take care of you is a difficult road back after you have succumbed to the control of significant others who seem to want to destroy you with their out of control lives. Hmmm. Or, if you have been a controller of people with your out-of-controlled actions in life and really would like to "change", this book will guide you IF you are honest with YOU.If you are on a mission of fixing yourself, be ready for the truth. It stings a little; sometimes a lot! Prepare to face your demons and reflect. You will know instantly if you are ready to give up your control or if you are ready to accept the things you really cannot change; if you want out from under a "controller" ?A great place to begin your life with YOU!

Half of it was just what I needed
I agree with the idea that self-awareness about feelings is part of the mix, but it's a big subject, and for those who need to do that work, a separate book is warranted. This author could have devoted a page or two to a high-level view of the importance of this work, instead of a big chunk of the book. After all, self-awareness about feelings is not the topic of this book. Self-help books are easily prone to covering too much, and forgetting that readers are not all coming from the same place. In my case, I had to skip over much of the book to get to the parts I needed. A tighter focus would have been better. That said, the parts I needed were helpful. I will now turn to yet more help because for me, much of the work lies simply in changing a long-standing habit. If I find such a book written by Daniel Miller, I will buy it.

You will recognize a part of yourself in the pages of this book
I was a bit sceptical when this book was recommended to me because I have read SO very many books over the years that just left me more confused than when I started but I am really loving Danny's book. It's well laid out with lots of really good examples and simple strategies. It's not overly jargony or complex. The scenarios are easily relatable and solutions easily adaptable.I like how he has merged eastern philosophy so easily with 12 step lessons and general psychology principles in a way that make it understandable.I bought the ebook originally but I think I need to get the paperback now so I can highlight and flip back easily to parts that particularly apply to me.The book is really helping me to see my way more clearly through some big changes that are taking place in my life, which is exactly what I needed but didn't know it until I started reading.Thank you Danny for spelling it out for me.

freedom!
After using control in all areas of my life, to achieve 'great' things..wealth, family, friends etc, oh how I knew it couldn't last! .....and it didn't, only through surrender and the basic ethos of Millers book did I learn to breath and live properly..how 'God' meant it to be~just relieved I found this book when I did, to affirm all the controlling things I was doing..and when you let go..it feels like you've been reborn..And everyone around me feels pretty good too~believe me, particularly all those type A personalities xxx I still have my wealth beautiful family, friends and my health, but at a high price..now they're just part of the process..the most important parts, granted..but I don't worry or conrol my life or them, and the more I let go, the better things seem to be and more comes my way..think that is how the universe (God) works xxx spirituality is the underpinning of all I do, think and feel, so I would love all those controllers out there who feel they need more peace and less grief to read this book! Love always xxx

More detail on fear
A book I'm glad I bought and read. I was aware I control so perhaps I didn't get as many a ha moments as I'd have liked but that's not the authors fault. For me the only downside was on the section regarding fear. The author suggests making an inventory of our fears. My problem is I'm not totally aware of all my fears, if I was would I need the book? I feel there was an opportunity missed, a suggested list of typical fears where they come from etc would have been very helpful.
