I have a 13" mattress on slatted platform. Will this comforter hang at least 1/2 way down both sides of the mattress (especially after laundering)?

Haven't laundered it yet, but it is a fabulous soft cotton --- This is a generous sized quilt and will hang down at least 11" or more on a king size bed ... no problems. This is not a skimpy product ... classy and good quality

What color bed skirt would look best with this set?

I don't have a bed skirt but I do have a medium brown bed frame that shows. That color should work well for you.
