Maybe Not For Everyone, But...
This is the second FlatCat grip I've ordered. I ordered the first one several months ago to re-grip a putter I had obtained. This most recent one was for a chipper.THE GOOD: Once on the shaft, this grip provides a flat area for your thumb, giving you great consistency on shots because the club is held in precisely the same manner every time. I also favor the fact that the grip is extra-large. It took awhile to get used to the oversized feel but once I became familiar with it I would never go back to a more traditional grip.For what it's worth, the grip also looks good. The black-and-yellow color scheme does make it stand out.THE BAD: Well, maybe the "not so good" would be a more appropriate title. The FlatCat grip comes with NO instructions, and you may have a devil of a time installing it. I did find a lot of generic grip-installation instructions online. You absolutely cannot install this grip dry, and the instructions I did find online were often contradictory as to what to use to install it: recommendations ran the gamut from lighter fluid to paint thinner to lacquer thinner to soap and water to...you name it. I am a great believer in WD-40 so I used that, and after about a 20-minute wrestling match I had grip on the club and positioned where I wanted it. I left it to dry overnight, and the grip was tight and secure the next morning. If you have access to a pro shop, you might want to pay a few bucks and have the grip installed by them. It would definitely be worth it.THE BOTTOM LINE: Aside from the lack of instructions, this item would be a solid five stars. Excellent feel and performance. Again, I recommend you have it installed by a professional.
