Improved version makes me glad I chose this
My wife had bought me the high-end Astro headset for the Xbox nearly 8 Christmases ago and I used it every day until it bought the farm. It was fantastic and worth every penny of the over $200 she spent on it. I pondered the various top-quality headsets for my Xbox Series X as I want the best experience from my gaming. Let's just say I made the right decision to go back to Astro. The new one has a stronger frame, ex excellent, immersive sound quality and plug and play adapter that seamlessly merges with the Xbox controller. I think it is actually cheaper now than it was 8 years ago...

Absolutley worth the money!
Hands down the best headset I've ever owned. Previously used Turtle Beach headsets and this one is so much better. Feels very premium and the sound is amazing. Very easy to hear things like footsteps in fps games. Pretty loud too, sometimes I actually have to turn down the volume when playing call of duty or battlefield 5. The mixamp is great too. Love the convenience of having the volume knob close by my thumbs so I can quickly adjust volume or mute without having to take my hands off the controller.

Love
This are the best gaming headset I've ever used. This is my second pair only for selling last pair and regretted it. I use them for Xbox x, and love the all controls are right at your fingertips. The breathability for your ears are great while still canceling enough noise not to be a distraction. So for moms and dads that want good quality noise canceling and still hear your baby wake up from a nap, these are the ones :)

great audio but very short life
I enjoyed these headphones for the first 8 months before the height adjuster broke and I started getting static over the mic. I could hear it as well as all my friends. They are unuseable because of the sound it makes when the wire gets moved around a little bit. I have tried contacting the company and it never gets me anywhere. If you want to waste your money to get less than a year out of your product then this is the right headset for you! If you want them to break and never get a hold of customer support then these are exactly for you.

Best wired headset I’ve found in 10 years
You get what you pay for, and these are on par to be as good as you can get for wired Xbox one headsets. Comfy, sturdy, and great sound. It came with Dolby atmos so I compared it to stock surround sound settings; I liked the atmos for deeper bass, but I might flip flop between them just to test some more. I love everything about the m80 adapter: layout, feel, lighting display, knob control with push mute and mute backlight, chat/game audio mixer, and the cord is permanently attached on the underside so I no longer accidentally yank the cord out of the standard Xbox adapter. They hit a home run on this one. It’s far and away the best and most streamlined audio controls for an Xbox headset, period. Mic and chat are sufficient and clear. I was a little worried about the interchangeable parts coming loose, but thankfully they’re nice and snug. Only con I can think of: the adapter feels kind of light for having so many controls. Has me worried it might be susceptible to normal wear and tear. Other thing is the ear muffs seem like they’ll be annoying to clean due to being very soft and absorptive material. But, those are just afterthoughts to a splendid purchase.

Loving this headset!
I have been wanting to try Astro for a long time. I gotta say I had my doubts but decided to take the plunge. At the time of this review the headset is on sale for $169.99 down from $199.99. I figured if I was not 100% happy I would at least have the option to return this. I am happy to report that this headset is definitely for me! Construction: This thing is built very well. Super solid construction and does not feel flimsy or anything. It has a bit more weight to it than my previous headset which worried me at first but I quickly got used it. I don't think the weight of this will be an issue but I it might bother some so decided to mention it. I love how the ear muffs feel and how it fits my head. It definitely has a premium quality feel to it. I can't say enough about the comfort. Sound: These are much better sounding than my old Turtle Beach XO set, not extremely better but definitely a noticeable step up. The MixAmp 80 which plugs directly into the controller that comes with these is much better than any adapter that I have used from other headsets for the xbox controller. It has a nice little LED light screen that shows you how high the volume is and what the balance is between chat and game. A nice smooth dial to adjust volume and press to mute. I honestly don't think you're going to get better sound unless you go with a setup that has an external amp like the MixAmp Pro TR with optical out. You can only do so much with a setup without that. Keep in mind I have not typically spent this much on a headset before so this headset as-is was bound to be an upgrade. This headset was plug and play. Just plug the adapter into your controller and then the other end to the headset and done. So that was nice. Not a bunch of wires to manage other than that. So why the 4 stars instead of 5. I can't ignore that fact that this goes for $199.99 normal price which is only $50 less than a full setup with the A40 TR Headset + Mixamp Pro TR. I hated to spend $250 on that version so when I saw this version (A40 TR Wired Headset + MixAmp M80) for $169.99 I had to give it a go and I don't regret it at all. $169.99 for this one was a good deal and compromise for me. The best part is I can always buy the Mixamp Pro TR separately down the line since it works with this when I feel like going a step further. For now these work great! Update 06-18-19: So I decided to take the plunge and pickup the MixAmp Pro TR by itself for $129.99 to add to this. I could not get my A40 headset mic to work properly with the MixAmp Pro TR so had to return. As it turns out The M80 MixAmp is just way more convenient to use, plugs directly into your controller with one wire, mute button built in with 3 EQ settings, chat/game balance buttons, and decent volume that is very close to what this MixAmp Pro TR was putting out. $199.99 is still pricey for this item but it is a great headset. Personally, I would recommend this over the MixAmp Pro TR setup. MixAmp Pro TR was just too much of a hassle for me with wires all over the place.

Transitioned from Turtle Beach
I had been using Turtle Beach products for years, and while the audio was always impressive, regardless of the price point, I found the quality to be lacking. Ear pads would develop tears and the band would often crack or break after some time. I chose these Astro A40 TRs because the band was metal and the ear pads were cloth. These were fantastic. Comfy and durable. The mix amp software allows you to tune profiles for whatever you're listening to. I didn't think it was a gimmick but I admit I was surprised at how profound and tangible the tuning could be. I bought these for FPS games I play and ended up using them anytime I consumed any media. Highly recommend.

Really happy with this product. Headphones look nice and are pleasantly comfortable. Setup of the mixamp on my xbox was relatively easy. Also as I already had an xbox wifi adaptor for my pc it also very easy to setup there. I love the mixamp controls right there on my controller for ease of use. All features of the mixamp worked the same on both xbox and pc. It was great that a two year subscription of Dolby Atomos was included. This feature is fantastic. Recommend.

I have no complaints, good quality. Sound quality is the best I’ve ever experienced with a headset.

After using the Astro A50’s for years and loving every minute of the sound, I needed a replacement because the battery life was shot and moving and unplugging the amp multiple times messed up the amps circuit board. I have noticed no difference (or loss) in sound quality moving from the a50’s to the a40 with the mixamp M80, and I enjoy having the sound controls right on the controller. Unless you need the wireless or multiple sound options, this Is a great headset with quality sound.

Comfortable headset but the mixamp died after a few months despite taking very good care of the headset and all cords/attachements. The headset itself still works but the pain has begun to chipoff, for the cost I would say headset was not at all worth it. Will be going with cheaper options in the future.

The sound quality of this headset is excellent. If you need a headset that is both loud and crystal clear, this is the one. Professional gamers use it and I can see why. My only gripe is the ability to control the mix between chat and game audio. Let me explain... Game audio is controlled on a scale of 1 to 36 - a random number, I know, but it gives you LOTS of precision. I like this a lot. On the other hand, the mix of chat/game audio is only on a scale of 1 to 9, which doesn't give you much control at all. At 1, game audio is muted and all you can hear is chat. At 9, chat audio is muted and all you can hear is gameplay. Imagine buying a TV that had only 9 volume settings?? You would go insane. I play 99% of my time at chat audio 8, where chat is at the quietest possible setting above muted. And even here - at the quietest possible setting, it is still WAY too loud. If any of your friends have a headset with a little hiss/buzz in their background, you'll have to stop playing with them.
