This model features microprocessor control of not one, but two bands of amateurs. The RCI-2970 N2, rated at 200 W PeP, is perfect for latter band openings at 10 and 12 meters. Now you can upgrade your sheath for ham capabilities with a radius that is feature-rich and reasonable in cost. This model maintains the operating functions of its most popular predecessors, including programmable offset repeater and option capabilities for one tone CTCSS – to increase active repeater activity by 10 meters – and scanning receiver for quick search of frequencies. The units offer three selection frequency methods, Non-volatile memory to store and scan frequencies up to ten favorites, and front-panel frequency selector lock. In addition, this model offers an impressive range of design and performance improvements: 1. Enhanced Receiver: Designed for increased sensitivity and image rejections. 2. Dual FET Balanced Mixer: for improved Intermodulation rejection receiver. 3. New power supply: Protection and temperature compensation to improve stability and reliability across wide temperature ranges. 4. Surface Mount Components: for increased shock and vibration resistance. 5. Improve display illumination: for easy reading in a wide range of light conditions. 6. Output power from 10W to 200W (rci-2970 N2 variable).

Monster power Radio 35 amp draw stock. WOW!
Reminds me of my 2510 only monster power! 11 meter easy conversion. you do not have to do anything after the mod. If you need a new radio, that does it all, without a bunch of BS toys, this is it period Yeah you can turn it up a little, you will need at least a good 60 amp astron power supply if you use it at full power it might blow up. Leave it Stock astron 35M works perfect. SSB works great dead on the money and does not drift like all the galaxy radios do on SSB. Radio might be a little bit noisier on receive than my 2510 but it is still pretty good. I tried it on AM and it is very good also. Another thing I really like the fact the radio does not drive you nuts with a bunch of switches that are on top of each other, pretty easy to operate. The built in fan kicks up and down keeping the radio pretty cool. I am using a Turner +2 mic. The stock hand held is ok, just don't like a hand held for the base. Very large fuse comes with it, and power wires are bigger than you might think and are not very long. One other thing I like the meter on my Galaxy DX99V better than the 2970N2, and that's about it. One thing I thought strange on the 2970N2 in the SSB when you key up the mic it draws 8 amps kind of strange, works fine but who knows why?

Great radio
10 and 12 meter, 11 meter with the plugin that comes with the radio that you can easily install.. Very stable on sideband. 11 meter is illegal above 4 watts, so it's a no go in the United States. This beast will swing 300+ on sideband and 220+ on am. A 50 amp power supply is required for those numbers. The modulation and dead key are marked and very easy to adjust. Use a good power mic, you will get your number called!

Awesome radio.
Awesome. That is all that truly needs to be said. It dead keys at 75 and swings 120 watts out of the box. If your a cb'r it's a great radio for sure. It does 10 and 12 meter well too. If you talk sbb. This is the radio to do it on. Everyone says it sounds great. I purchased this one to replace my 2950. I couldn't have made a better choice.

Absolute garbage!
I've had the RCI2970N2 for about a month now. Since day one it has been off frequency. I was willing to deal with that. But now the man/shift buttons quit working! And I am stuck on the 6th digit of the freq counter. It puts out 22 watts on low power and about 70 on high. $500 wasted!

Radio Not New
Well, lets start off by saying the radio I received does not appear it be in new condition. The warranty sticker has been removed from my unit making the two year manufacturer warranty from Ranger null and void. The absence of this sticker worries me slightly. Furthermore, There is this strange gunk on the bottom of the rig I have no clue what is. The e-chip needed to give the radio extended range from 24 MHz through 32 MHz, CB frequencies as well, was included. Nice touch, if this radio was type accepted and legal for use on said additional frequencies. I Powered on the radio for the first time to find the receiver drifted by at least 350 Hz (makes a big difference on SSB and CW), and I'm still not sure what the transmitter was doing. Started to troubleshoot, and found out the mic connector wasn't installed properly. After fixing the connector, the drift stopped, so that's a plus.
