They work very well with two 1.5V batteries (i.e. 3V). As they are rated at 5mW (see the description), they consume 1.6mA with that voltage source.

I use two 1.5 volt AAA batteries. So 3volts total

No, you will need to add one of your own, can use something like 3AA batteries in a holder, Orr a 9v PP3 through a 5v voltage regulator, anything that provides 3-5v to the diode
