This humidifier is the best match for my needs.
I really like this item and I feel it does a good job. I picked this for a few reasons: 1. It's cheap. 2. It cools the air as it works (I'm always hot at night and we don't have AC). 3. I live in a dry climate (Eastern Idaho) so the "wicking" method works well here. I have two other similar humidifiers ( Vicks 1.0 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier ) that we use for white noise in our boys bedrooms because they are a bit louder (but they also seem to blow more air, even on the low setting). This humidifier is much quieter (especially on the low setting) it's almost completely silent. I picked these same type of humidifiers because I wanted cool air and a sonic humidifier creates tiny dust particles from minerals in the water so I didn't want that. I like how all three use the same filters which aren't too expensive to replace ($8-9 each I think) and last 2-3 months for me but I usually get them to last a few months longer by soaking them in water with a couple cups of white vinegar and a bit of bleach (to kill any molds etc.) and they're good as new for a while but eventually they start falling apart and I have to throw them away. Also my boys, age 1 and 3, love the starry night light on it that changes color. My one year old likes to climb on it and had knocked it over many times causing it to dump out all its water on the carpet. My only complaints about this item are: 1. You can't adjust the aim of the air and it blows out the bottom onto the floor. Don't you want cool air directed upwards so it can mix with the warm air? The air at ground level is cool already! 2. It leaks very easily with the slightest imbalance when you try moving it while there's water in it. 3. It must be placed on a perfectly level, water-proof piece of furniture or on the floor. I don't own a single piece of furniture like that. I wish I could put it on the dresser but that's just too risky because of spilled water.

Great Humidifier, not just for parents of small kids
I ended up buying this humidifier instead of the Honeywell one because it was $30 cheaper and the same 1 Gallon capacity. Very reasonably priced for an evaporative humidifier. This style doesn’t require distilled water, and is easier to clean and maintain than ultrasonic ones. The pink model was even cheaper, but I didn’t know the nightlight changes colors (I originally thought it was either blue or red and I didn’t want a red light). Operation is straightforward. It’s practically silent when running in Sleep Mode. The nightlight is a nice addition. It also comes with a slot for putting Vicks pouches that put menthol vapors into the air. That’s another nice feature, but one I wouldn’t use every day. Good when you have a cold or the flu though. I wish it had an auto-off feature, or a humidity sensor, but for around $50, I’m not complaining.

Seems to get the job done.
I waited two months to review. I originally bought this for my nephews when they got sick with bad colds and doctor suggested it. I recently just started using it the past two days due to my asthma acting up with the vapo pads. Honestly it has helped me sleep great with no breathing issues shockingly, so I will have to order another for me lol. I seen a lot of reviews about leaking, but so far so good for me. I’m guessing they maybe redesigned it? I use the max setting and it’s pretty loud which I enjoy since I sleep with a fan on usually for the sound, so this works just as good in place of a fan. Also gives off a cool air. My nephews used the sleep mode and it was mostly quiet. They love the night light mainly on this. Also noticed it did help them stop coughing in their sleep when they used it.

Excellent... but must know how it works or will “leak.”
This is our second purchase I’m of this model. We are aware of the polarity in the reviews relating to the leaking. We love it with the major exception of a manageable design flaw in the humidifier: an L shaped dish floods when the reservoir is lowered and wicks the filter. The fan evaporates water from the filter. The problem is that this L shaped dish is tip-top filled. So if you bump It or move it, water spills into the bottom shell and is directed out to a hole in the back left corner. So if it needs to be moved, you have to do as I just did: remove the reservoir, remove the filter/wick, carefully pull the vertical plastic piece to lift the L-shaped dish (full of water) and empty it (a dish, the sink, or back into reservoir). Then hold the unit over a receptacle and tilt the unit back left corner down to drain the overspill from doing all of this moving. Once the base is drained, the L-shaped dish (emptied) can be replaced, then the filter/wick, then after placing the unit where you want it, then you can lower the (refilled) reservoir and proceed to using it again. If you never move it, never nudge it, then the L-shaped dish will fill but never overflow or spill and you won’t have to do all this. I imagine if the water reservoir empties the L-shaped dish will evaporate or remain filled to receive the refilled reservoir. (The first leaked an entire reservoir and ruined the veneer on our dresser) but... It’s a really nice, clean, effective unit. We recently purchased our second with me determined to figure out this “leaking”/spilling issue. I’ve got it figured out. I hope we don’t have to move it. If we do, it’s a test of patience. Not sure what would happen if you just plug the hole in the outer base shell, but as long as spilled water doesn’t rise to a level of electronics (or perhaps the front vent where the most comes out), it could be a decent fix. Next version would suggest moving the vent from the square to a strip along the front placed higher up and plug the drainage hole. [claiming royalties if this is what Vicks decides to do!]

Best humidifier I've ever had and I love the light!
This humidifier is perfect! The soft glow of the tank while the light is turned on is the perfect nightlight, soothing, and can be turned on and off by a dedicated power switch. The light isn't overly bright and I use it often as a small light during nighttime feeds and diaper changes with our newborn to keep from waking my toddler or husband. The large tank capacity is perfect for the night on high and can be run for a few evenings on the quiet mode. The ability to use the vicks vapopads in it is a godsend while our family has colds and one pad lasts all night. I do wish it was filter less however. I find that with the hard water in my area I have to change it every 3 weeks for best operation of the machine. It's relatively easy to clean if you keep up with it. Otherwise its impossible to get into every corner of the tank. I usually run hot water and about 2 cap fulls of bleach and let it sit for 10 minutes then rinse it out thoroughly and leave it to air dry about once a month. The inside tray that holds the filter is easy enough to remove and scrub up.

Terrible customer service
I’m giving this one star based solely on my experience with customer service. I have purchased 4 of these over the years. I’m currently using 3 (one broke when my husband dropped the tank). Two of them are making a noise like there’s a card hitting the fan in the motor. It’s loud and irritating but the humidifier still works fine. One of them is maybe 2 years old, the other one is one week old so I know it’s not an issue of needing a newer one or build up of hard water or anything. I called customer service to see what I could do to make the noise stop. Their solution was for me to cut the electrical cord, take a picture of the cut cord and email it to them. Once they received this they would send me a new one. I’m sure this is so they know you aren’t trying to scam them out of a free humidifier. I have several issues with this. 1. I need a humidifier in my kids rooms. It’s December and they’re all sick. I can’t go without one until they decide to send me a new one which could take at minimum 2 weeks I was told. 2. The humidifier isn’t broken. It’s still making the room more humid. This seems like a total waste. I don’t want a new one. I want to fix this one. 3. How do I know this won’t be happening with the new ones they send me since it seems to happen with all units. They said I could wait for a prepaid label and then send my humidifiers in to them and then they would send me new ones once they verified mine are faulty. This would take even longer than the cutting the cord option. I’m so irritated with the whole thing. I guess I’ll wait until summer when I don’t need a humidifier and try to return these for new ones that will just end up making the same noise. Do NOT buy this humidifier or any other Vick’s humidifier for that matter if you don’t want to deal with outrageously unhelpful customer service.

Not perfect. But what is these days?
I have had 3 of these over multiple years and kids. This most recent purchase was for my best friend and her newborn. This humidifier is probably my favorite in terms of the multiple humidifiers I have personally owned. Positives : The nightlight feature is great, not to bright and not to dim. Perfect for newborns and toddlers alike. The fact that you can add the vicks vapor tabs. The ease in which to add water, it fit in my sink great and I didn't lose half the refill water when I went to take it out of the sink. The length it lasted. I didn't have to worry that it ran out in the middle of the night, the humidifier was still running 90% of the time when I came o to get my kids up or they were ready to start their day. The ease to add a new filter when needed. Cons: The price of replacement filters. Not gonna break the bank, but it's like replacing "C" batteries in your kids favorite toy.... it's not exactly the cheapest and it tends to get old. The pink moldy crap that likes to accumulate on the filter. We just couldn't seem to avoid this. I dunno if it was our water hardness or lack their of or what we live in the southwest... but the dang filter loved to turn pink on us starting the 4th week mark. The knobs, now we only had this happen on 1 of out 3, but the knob popped/snapped off and keeping track of the piece to pop it back in to change things from of to on kinda go old. To be fair my 3 year old managed to remove it. The plastic water housing. Also another tested by the fate of kids. 2 out of the 3 water containers did crack after being knocked off the dresser. So if you have a newborn or non Walker this would be great, but just be cautious if they are older and able to knock things down. This product may not bounce back as easily as a toddler. All in all, I still liked this humidifier. I live having a nightlight. I loved that it lasted all night providing humidity. I like how quick it was to fill and pop back into place. So to say I'd buy it again or obvious especially since ove bought 3. Hope this helps.
