4 Month Review -After switching from Mach III razors Below is the listed product I am using as part of my "Shaving Arsenal." It took me a while to find each piece needed to bring it all together. My approach was finding all the pieces that had the best reviews vs. price. Just about everything listed below was the "highest price" but luckily these items don't cost much. Not CLOSE to as much as it costs to shave with Mach III Safety razors. If your ready to make the switch to a superior, and cheaper, alternative then check out the products below. After Shave: Virgin Island Bay Rum by Clubman I've tested several types of Aftershave in stores but never found anything I liked. Based on reviews I had a hunch I would really like this. Once it arrived I was right! It gives me a very fresh feeling after my morning shave, and has an amazing smell which isn't overpowering at all. The first thing I noticed about this handle is the quality. You can tell its not your basic cheap piece of metal. Its got a comfortable weight to it, keeps its brilliant chrome finish, and clean up is quick and easy. I consider myself a man with normal size hands and don't know why this one is considered "long handled." Its just a tad longer than the Mach III razor I used to use. However, it’s a night and day difference compared to those "Safety razors." It cuts very close with minimal passes. I'm half Filipino so I don't have the thickest facial hair but definably pull off a goatee without a problem. Other than one "Dud" all other blades have been very predictable and easy to use. I have gotten the occasional razor burn but that appears to be normal with any Double-edged razor. Its been 4 months and the chrome is still shining well. Where this brush looses a star is because it lost some of its bristles during the first week. Since then there haven't been any more hair-loss and I've had no problems. 4 months going strong. Based on previous reviews, it sounds like the amount of lather has significantly decreased. Does it work? Yes, but I like a good lather. Anyways, its been 3 months and I feel like I have maybe gone through half of this container which isn't bad. For as simple as it is, it lost two stars. There is a rim that goes along the bottom that has (or had) a black rubber piece that ran around it to provide a good footing for the Bowl while on a counter. The very first day this part fell off, it didn’t seat on there, and it wasn't glued. In the garbage that piece went. The next star was lost due to finish. Love the smell, lasts most of the day for me, good burn and tightens my face up after a shave. This is my go to after shave. Works well, smells great, lasts the day, and priced right. What’s not to like???

I'm 34 years old, been shaving since I was around 13 or so, but have almost never used aftershave. I blame it on Brut, it was what my dad and older brothers used. I hated the smell and still do. About a year ago I started experimenting with aftershave as a way to sooth my very sensitive skin. I always dreaded shaving due to razorburn and redness. I first came across Pinaud products on amazon when I wanted to go beyond the standard big box store's selection of aftershaves, and bought the standard Pinaud Clubman aftershave. It is good, with a nice old time barber shop smell, but if I use it several shaves in a row it seems to dry my face out, so it was back to using Aqua Velva & Adidas most days. I finally decided to try out the Virgin Island Bay Rum and after using it almost exclusively for a few weeks I can say it's great stuff. The smell is very unique, and maybe not for everybody. It is a bit hard to describe, there is definitely rum and cloves in there and there's nothing feminine about it, this is a manly smell, almost working class compared to regular Clubman. If your somebody who likes "modern" scents you may not like this aftershave, not that it lasts too long, but this isn't a cologne after all. With regular Clubman the scent can last all day but this one is light and after a couple hours it's gone, but that's not a bad thing to me. A few reviewers have noted the burn, with some reporting it as very intense. It does have a slight burn, especially if used around the upper lip, but seriously it's aftershave, not kerosene. The burn fades after a few seconds and it does seem to do a good job soothing my skin, stopping bleeding from a minor nick, and in general does everything a good aftershave should do. If you like old school scents try this one out, it smells like nothing else out there and seems to work good for me. Everyone's skin reacts differently and that's the risk you take trying a new product, plus if you order online there's no way to test the scent beforehand. Of course the way Pinaud seals their products you couldn't try it in the store without breaking the rubber seal regardless, but I prefer this when ordering a product, there's much less chance of the lid unscrewing during shipping.

Pretty good scent. Very clove heavy. It definitely smells artificial compared to higher end bay rum after shaves but it’s a good start for the arsenal

Wer Bay Rum liebt ist hier gut bedient. Genug Alkohol um wirklich zu wirken. Selbst ich mit empfindlicher Haut hatte immer rasurbrand, egal was für Nassrasierer. Nach der Rasur mit Hobel nehme Alaunstein, nach Einwirkzeit abwaschen, Clubmann Bay Rum drauf und es bleibt nahezu sauber ohne Pfückchen. Konnte bisher kein sensitiv Balsam. Duft ist auch super, habe ich auch gelegentlich als Eau de Toilette benutzt.

Like the smell and it’s refreshing. However, its base notes resemble old spice mostly. If I were to make a purchase for a fragrance like this, based on price, I would choose old spice instead.
