excellent, odorless 1qt canteen!
these Nalgene Oasis Canteens are the same shape and size as the traditional military canteens, made of metal and then plastic...but, this comes without any odor!even with a half full canteen of h20 left idle for a long period, there is still no odor, and if you place something other than h20 in it, there is no lingering taste or odor of that item.it is a very strong and durable material, this Eastman Tritan, and the Oasis 1qt is a perfect replica in size and shape to the canteens of the military.Nalgene Oasis Pros;• no odor• impact-resistant (very durable…i dare say, unbreakable!)• stain-resistant• BPA-Free• lightweight• attached leakproof top (no rubber seal, just seals via threading it down tight)• fits standard military Canteen Cover that attaches to belt of mission suspenders/belt kit, along with FA Kit, and pistol holster; Military Outdoor Clothing Previously Issued US GI OD Green Canteen Set with Suspenders• fits into standard military canteen cup; Rothco 3 Piece 1 Quart Canteen Kit With Cover & Aluminum Cup• effectively, a perfect replacement for the OD plastic 32oz. canteen that retains odors and is less durable... wish Nalgene was around and supplied the military when i served... we had the standard OD plastic that always smelled... of course, you just got used to it.• fits excellent in this vintage-look case with shoulder strap; Rothco Vintage Canvas Carry-All 1 Qt Canteen Cover With Shoulder Strap, Black ... my wife and i carry our Nalgene Oasis bottles in this shoulder-strapped case on short hikes with the dog (plus a silicone collapsible bowl) and we all stay nicely hydrated... :-) this case is durable and, also, has a convenient, little, velcro-closured pocket for a cell phone... a very nice feature!…for short hikes, the Nalgene Oasis Canteen, in a carrying cover like something above, can not be beat.Nalgene Oasis Cons;• none.these are superb 32 oz canteen bottles! we have now purchased three (3) Oasis canteens, as well as several other Nalgene bottles, and they all share the same high quality, durability, and odor-free standard... an excellent product!Nalgene also makes a slick 12oz. flask, that stows easily in a coat pocket or cargo pant pocket, with all the odor-free and other qualities of the canteens;Nalgene 12 Oz Flask, Bluelastly, i have tried many water bottles through the years and have found nothing that beats or even compares to Nalgene!very pleased, Thank you! :-)

The best canteen I have ever owned, had to buy a second. Bought in 2014, reviewing 4 years later.
Upon research, the US GI issued canteens tend to smell like plastic. The Uncle Sam canteens also have issues with functionality and durability mostly because I suspect that the company who won the government contract was selling the cheapest product and was thus the lowest price to bid on. It appears that there are some troops on here who have purchased these Nalgene canteens as a replacement. The durability of these canteens is tried and true. When I first bought them, I was 21 and still in college. Now I am 25 and a working adult, and these water bottles have served as a constant. There is no smell of plastic, they have been dropped off of my bike, slammed around, put in the dishwasher, and used daily. There are small superficial signs of wear on the canteens as shown, but this was from being ground down on asphalt or scraped about imprudently. Such damage was superficial and had no impact on functionality. If it wasn't enough that these canteens have been reliable and durable for years now, these canteens are even made in the USA. Quality products made in the USA are a rarity nowadays. Plastic is very bad for the environment so the amount of care this company made in making these canteens is a responsible usage of plastic, good for the United States economy, and pays respect to the environment. It should be said that the reason I am gushing about this product is not because I have anything to gain, it was not gifted to me by the company for quid quo pro, or anything of the sort if you doubt the validity of my review. It's just that in an age where everything is cheaply made in China with planned obsolescence, this product seems like a last of the Mahicans. In short:- product is durable and held up beautifully after 4+ years of abuse- made in the USA- provides a reasonably priced and quality alternative for our troopsI would like to make a small note that of course this product is not insulated so it might be best to fill with some ice and get a cover for the canteens for insulation. Cleaning the product is best with soap and water and a brush. If the canteen begins to get really funky in smell, I recommend using some Star San solution and it will smell good as new.

New canteen for new generation
I've used military canteens since I was a kid in the 1960's. Had a Korean war aluminum 1 quart I carried in my saddle bags then. I have used the LC2 1 quart in an enhanced(fake fur lined for evaporative cooling on the plains) pouch on a belt and in my truck for EDC for the last 20 years. Have carried the 2 qt collapsible canteen on my saddle for the last 10 yrs. I got the Nalgene red tritan oasis canteen for my backpack because I wanted a light weight Nalgene product without the taste of mil canteens or BPA. The camelback bags are ok for reservoirs but I prefer the narrow mouth bottles to suckin on the tube(that's just my thing). The new tritan poly 1 qt mil spec canteen was the cat's meow because it is less bulky than the round bottles and would slide right in the side pouches on my backpack. Although, the other day I had it in my town truck and may have lost it to my girly girl wife who drank from it goin to town the other day. She says, "It's clean, don't stink and I can see what I'm drinkin". (We use filtered water from our house well.) I'll just have to get another one now for my pack. I liked it so good I got the coyote brown tritan canteen distributed under the Black Hawk name, for EDC in the truck, on horse and foot. It fits my pouches which have the mil spec stainless cup and stove to make a good basic survival hydration gear. This new generation canteen is clean, clear and tough. No funky plastic taste. Can't beat em for light weight, durability, sanitary and easy to clean for personal water carry.
