Second Sunbeam heating pad. First one lasted a decade or more with the control unit finally quitting. First impression fills our expectations.

This was my first ever heating pad for abdominal pain and back pain, I’m prompted to write this review because I recently purchased a new heating pad from a different brand because I wanted an upgrade and it was so awful that I had to come leave a review 7 years later for my OG heating pad that I’m currently still using!!!This heating pad is an absolute work horse and has really stood the test of time because I’ve not treated it gently. It’s very no frills but will do its job. The blue other cover is washable but not the nicest. It was three settings, and heats up very quickly. The high temperature actually gets hot and to a high temp. It doesn’t not have an auto timer.All in all it’s a good size, very flexible and a work horse, I think I’ll even try to look for a replacement with this same brand:company and hopefully get the same results!

I was looking for a heating pad to put under my seed starts since we're having such an extraordinarily cold and long winter. This heating pad, though not quite as long as my seed start container, manages to warm it just right on the low setting. It does not turn off like the others do after a set period of time and I'm very happy with it. However, if you are fussy about details, the cover is not made well in that they made a cover that folds one end over the over (like an envelope pillow) and along the fold, left an opening for the cord. On the surface this probably sounds fine, but here's what you need to understand: (1) the overlapping cover portion has no velcro or button so it keeps opening as it doesn't have much of an overlap; and (2) the portion left open for the cord is finished off with a loose zig zag stitch and is likely to be a weak point - if I were using this as an actual heating pad, this area would likely tear in short order. If you are at all handy, I'd recommending adding velcro to the overlapping cover and, at least at a minimum, something like Fray Check along the opening for the cord to reinforce it. Of course, you could just make a new cover and if you can sew even a little, you will see how easy it is. In fact, I would design an envelop style instead, having one long side longer so it folded over the other, attached with velcro and the cord would simply exit the space along the edge where the cover folded over like an envelope -- leaving no weak area for the cord.

I purchased and returned a few heating pads because they just didn’t get warm enough. I was happy with this one because it actually does get nicely warm. BUT the down side is that it gets all crinkled up with use. I have to flatten it out each time after using it
