Not for elementary school teachers
This book is billed as a classroom management resource for K-12 teachers. However, as a K/1 teacher, nothing in this book applied to my classroom situation or my students.Everything is geared toward middle and high school teachers and the struggles they face. The advice, the student quotes, the scenarios, and the author’s own stories from the trenches are centered on grades 6+. (This isn’t surprising, really, considering those are the grades the author has taught.) If you teach secondary students, I think you’ll get a lot out of this book. Anyone teaching at the elementary level will likely be disappointed.

Buying this for my mentees.
Succinct, easy to reference, practical. This book goes beyond behavior to what teachers can do in general--inside and outside the classroom--to have a more peaceful work experience. I used to rely on Harry Wong's wonderful resources, but these tips are more global. I originally purchased this for myself but decided to give copies to some new teachers. I wish I'd had some of this advice when I started teaching.

Brilliant Book!
Brilliant book on classroom management! Serena Pariser has a way of relating to students and is able to share her methods in a interesting, funny and endearing way. I really appreciate the anecdotes that are so relatable. Her emphasis on creating positive relationships with students as well as taking traditional practices and spinning them to awaken and surprise the classroom are inspriational!Highly recommended, even if you are not a teacher! Best practice ideas for relating to co-workers, employees and even stubborn teenagers of your own. She has included countless easy to read tips and figures to apply to your own classroom or work environment.Sensitive topics are covered as well, such as addressing issues with parents, getting through to "tough" kids, managing theft ect.The closing pages of the book are gems as well! Her to-go list of 50 teaching dos and don'ts, real advice: teacher to teacher and of course her anecdotes of real conversations with elementary students are all fantastics reads!!!!!

Missing pages
I'd be much happier with this purchase if it had all the pages. The book skips from page 200 to page 233. I will be writing to the publisher about this mishap.Otherwise, I've skimmed through the book and like the layout, and the best practice tips.
