"The Complete Irish Tin Whistle Tutor"

Excellent
Filled with good information. After a few introductory pages it dives right in to the tunes, so it might be helpful if you already know how to read music.

An informative book for anyone seeking to learn how to play the Irish Whistle.
As someone who has loved all kinds of music for more than 60 years and practiced playing numerous instruments (Ukulele, harmonica, kazoo, various kinds of flutes, recorders, numerous drums and other percussion instruments) for more than a decade I am always looking for interesting and unusual musical instruments to play. I recently purchased an Irish whistle and wanted a little more detailed text on how to play this instrument. I also purchased this interesting and informative manual (The complete Irish Tin Whistle Tutor by L.E. McCullough 74 pages with a CD) from Amazon for a bargain price.Though I found this book helpful and learned a lot reading, but there is NO WAY you can properly learn to play the Irish whistle without getting some hands on training with an instructor. I found some free basic lessons on line and in combination with reading this book I am able to play a few toons with this instrument. This covers the following material: Some remarks on Irish music, historical notes on the tin whistle, choosing a tin whistle, holding the tin whistle, embouchure, fingering, articulation, ornaments, graces, triplets, rolls, trills, putting it all together, phrasing and breath control, airs, the tunes, reels, jigs, notes to the tunes. The real value of this book can be understood better if it is combined with actual training with an Irish Whistle instructor.Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Hanbo-Jutsu: Use of the Hanbo, Cane, Walking stick and Baton for Self-Defense).

I didn't know how to rate this as it seems a good book but not useful for me
Too complicated for beginners. I didn't know how to rate this as it seems a good book but not useful for me. WAY too complicated and I dislike the use of music notes that look handwritten. They're just too hard for a beginner to read. Still the information is interesting and it would probably be a good book for people who can already read music and play some other instrument. Geraldine Cotter's Traditional Irish Tin Whistle Tutor is a better choice to learn from. A CD did come with the book but is not useful for me.

Tutorial assume too much
This “tutorial” assumes the reader can sight read music annotations. For a try novice it’s not a good starting text.

Super book on style and ornamentation. Super enhanced by included CD.
Very detailed tablature and guidance on Irish gracings/ornaments. Also examples of tunes simple first and how to add alternative ornaments. AND the new edition has a CD to let you know how everything sounds. Not a beginner book. Go through e.g. Mel Bay’s Deluxe Tinwhistle Songbook by Patrick Conway first. And, of course, listen to lots of Irish music.

The Complete Irish Tinwhistle
Sehr gutes Buch, erklärt alle Aspekte des Spiels. Viel Notenmaterial, allerdings mäßiges Notenbild stört etwas den pos. Gesamteindruck. Insgesamt empfehlenswert.

Comlete indeed
This book is not really for a beginner but there are plenty of introductory books around. It provides detailed information on ornamentation in Irish music and lots of tunes to practise on. The book pretty well lives up to its claim of being complete - if you master all the exercises you will be an impressive whistler indeed. Needless to say, this won't take place overnight but,if you've already mastered the basics it doesn't take too much practice to see an improvement. It can be fun ornamenting non-Irish tunes with the knowledge gained from this book.Strongly recommended for serious whistlers aiming to progress their skills beyond the basics.
