Inspiring. Short easy versus by author. Broken into sections based on prayer needs.

Excellent book 📖

The actual size of this 990 page book is 6 inches in height, 4 and a quarter inches in width and 1 and 2/16 of an inch from front cover to back cover. The contents of this book are layed out in the form of short proverbs, loosely arranged by subject into chapters. There are chapters after chapters of quaint little proverbs. There are so many proverbs that the reader may lose the forest for all the trees. In 'The Way, Furrow, The Forge', all three separate books are now compounded into one. It's a "smart" book though. It isn't so much a book on the dogmas of the Latin Rite that one would expect to join the bookshelf family. No, this is a coffe-table kind of book, meant I believe, for a casual browsing when there's nothing much else to do. But be careful, dear reader, you may find yourself drawn quite well into simple, yet profound depths of practical wisdom so as not to be able to put it back down. However, because of all the short proverbs, by the time you've reached two or three pages you will probably have already forgotten the proverb you began with. That's the way it reads. It's so chock full of salty wisdom that you have to take it in small portions for proper digestion which this cuisine really deserves.

This book challenges you when you read it. You do really have to meditate after each of his thoughts to try to fully understand what the author intended when he wrote the thought. I personally believe every person's faith is different and molded by life events around them. There are obvious "passages" that you can quickly identify with as your own, but also numerous thoughts that you have to remember how Escriva grew up in order to understand, and especially remember his role during the Spanish Civil War when priests were murdered in the streets and his own parish had their church burned to the ground. It is a very inspiring book, and while you may not agree with every thing he has written, it does make you want to become a better person of faith which I think is why he wrote his thoughts down in the first place.

A compilation of over 3,000 phrases and thoughts by this great saint. If one reads the prologue to "The Way", and meditate on it, you will understand why St. JE includes many thoughts which seem to nit-pick, criticize, etc. In fact, what they do is have you seek ever further into your soul and to be honest with yourself and to our Lord. I cannot recommend this enough. This is a compilation you will underline, highlight, etc, your favorite ones. Or, like me you may find yourself writing your favorite ones in your own book, to seek inspiration throughout the day. Your faith will increase with serious study of these thoughts!
