It appears from the picture that the bottom edge of the tiles are rounded. Arethe edges art the top the same ?

They are square tiles, maybe ever so slightly rounded, they are very nice quality and a good value.

would this be good for kitchen countertops?

It's porcelain so there shouldn't be any problem. It's really difficult to find 3x3 tiles in this color cobalt blue.

Can these tiles be separated? I have to replace a 2 x 3 section of tile on a pool spa.

Yes. There is a mesh they are all attached to that can be cut with a knife or scissors. You can leave as many attached to each other as you need and they then have the proper spacing in between for the mortar. Each tile is 3 x 3 so if you need a 2 inch section you will have to cut one tile with a tile saw.

Can this be used outdoors where it freezes in the winter?

Wish I could help, I'm in South Florida. Used them on an outdoor cement chair, we don't get cold enough weather in the winter.
