Will the brackets fit around the wide h2 hummer crossbar?

Possibly, the bracket themselves are pretty wide and the ubolt is nice and long; However, where the hummers cross cars line up in relation to the cross bars on the roof rack will make a difference, some nice the mounting bracket has to be centered between two of them. So if your cross bars are in a fixed (not moveable) location it could be difficult. There are 8 cross bars in 24 3/4”. Starting with the tape centered and counting the first one.

Would this work okay with hauling lumber? I need more for down points on my 4Runner.

It will work fine for lumber. I carry large cargo boxes full of gear on mine all the time. Only problem is that is will rust quickly.
