This kit has exceeded my expectations in pretty much every way. Given the price point, I expected a pretty bare bones model train setup without too many features. I was surprised to find how well made this kit is and what was all included. The track pieces are plastic, but well molded, clean, and fit together really well. The locomotive runs nice and smooth, and the 18650 battery cell lasts surprisingly long. The sound effects on the train are great and it says it'll do steam, though I haven't tried that yet. The track assembled easily and quickly, and we were doing our initial runs within just 15 minutes or so. The track, locomotive, and train cars are all really well done, especially for the price point. The other accessories are a bit simpler, but I honestly wasn't even expecting that stuff to be included. Overall, this gets two thumbs up for me.I see the age range is listed as 3-8 and I think that's a great age range with adult support. However, I don't think you could just hand this kit over to a kiddo that age and they'd be able to fully set this up along. My daughter is 5 and we've been having a lot of fun getting this going and are still picking away at setting up the accessories around the track.

I was actually very surprised with the quality of this little train set. The details, while not hand made intricate, are still pretty intricate on the engine and cars. The track fits together easily and lines up well so that there's not a huge bobble as the engine enters each section. The audio is actually surprisingly loud. The controller leaves a bit to be desired but works. The trackside accoutrements aren't very detailed though, but I'd expect if you were building a train diorama that wanted those extras you'd have the stuff to make better use of them than I could. I'm just going to set this back up at Christmas to transit the tree skirt for a bit of whimsy.For a first timer like me, a child, or as a decorative element I can highly recommend this set. The engine is rechargeable, it's remote controlled, the track can be configured a few different ways and the details look good. It's not even expensive by model train standards. The remote has a bit of delay between input and action, and it's not thousand dollar quality, but those are a nitpick and a duh-huh.Would buy.
