You need to be smart with how you use this.
As you can see, this is a long and in depth review, so you don’t have to read the entire thing – just know that, 2 months after making my purchase, I am certain that this cream is the easiest way to achieve the straight beard look that you want… IF you use it correctly.Unfortunately, “correctly” does not necessarily mean the directions written on the box. The thing is, not only do we all have different beards – thus giving us different starting points, but we may also have slightly different outcomes in mind when wanting to straighten our beards. You may have tight curls, loose curls, wavy hair texture, a long beard, a short beard – you may not even be interested in straightening your entire beard. One set of generic, one-size-fits-all instructions cannot possibly service all of these different needs. I actually considered giving the cream a lower rating for this reason alone.Anyway some very important things I’ve picked up in the 2 months I’ve had this cream (and used it twice in that time) – I’ll summarise all of the points for those not interested in reading about my entire experience with the cream:1. The instructions say to leave the stage 1 cream in for three minutes – don’t do that! It’s better to leave it in for just one minute, shampoo it out, and assess. You may find that you’re happy with the change already (assuming your beard wasn’t tightly curled to begin with). Three minutes may well be too long in that case and you risk is looking different to how you wanted it to. Once the beard is completely dry (blow dry if you can), if you don’t think it is straight enough, then the next day, re-apply for another minute. Which brings me to my next point…2. DO NOT use the stage 2 cream straight away. For one reason, the cream doesn’t work properly unless your beard is bone dry, so trying to do both stages in the space of 5 minutes will likely result in your beard not being dry yet. The second reason is, I’m not quite sure what exactly the stage 2 cream is supposed to do other than re-harden the hair in its new straightened state, but if you decide you want to re-apply the stage 1 cream the next day, it makes sense to have not already applied the stage 2 cream. Going back and forth between the two creams in quick succession probably isn’t great for your beard. Also…3. You may not need the stage 2 cream at all. Quite frankly, I’ve found my beard much easier to shampoo, comb (zero tugging), moisturise, and style right after using the stage 1 cream versus after using the stage 2 cream. I am still yet to use the stage 2 cream after using the stage 1 cream for a second time last week (detailed below), and I haven’t experienced any negative effects, apart from the smell of the stage 1 cream in my beard for a few days whenever it got wet. But as I said, that was only when wet and it stopped after a few days. But that’s just my experimental experience.4. Use the cream before getting your beard trimmed, not after. When you straighten your beard (at least from my experience) it can reveal a lot of uneven hair length within the beard. So it’s best to get a trim afterwards to even everything out and get rid of split ends.I’ll detail my full experience below for those who are interested, but for those who aren’t, my overall advice is to be a bit cautious with how long you leave the first cream in your beard for (only 1 minute at a time every day until satisfied with how it looks and feels) rather than 3 minutes in one go – and don’t rush to use the stage 2 cream, you may not need it.The full story:My beard was curly and bushy. Very difficult to maintain any kind of neatness for longer than a couple of hours. I also had one big patch on the right cheek area that I figured I could cover (comb over style) if my beard hair was straighter. The Beard Straightening Cream is actually a box of two creams – I followed the instructions on the box (stage 1 cream for 3 minutes followed by stage 2 cream for 30 seconds). After the stage 1 cream, my beard felt incredibly soft, and was straighter than before. However, after I applied the stage 2 cream and let it dry, my beard felt less smooth and fluffy than after the stage 1 cream. It didn’t feel bad... just not as amazingly soft. My beard was still straighter, but honestly nothing I felt motivated to write a review about.I still had some left so gave it to my younger brother to use as he had the same curly beard struggles as I did. Afterwards his beard looked a lot healthier than mine and felt much softer and fluffier. He told me that it was probably because he had only used the first cream and didn’t bother with the second because of what I told him about my experience with the stage 2.Although he did use it the next day after a shower whilst his beard was still damp. He later complained that his beard took longer to get wet in the shower than the hair on his head, and that he could smell the stage 1 cream in his beard when wet. Neither of these things happened to me with the stage 2, so I imagine it was because he didn’t blow-dry his beard between stage 1 and 2 as it says to do on the box (so that’s a least one direction you should follow I guess).Anyway, this was about a month ago. Last week (as of writing) I decided to use the rest of the cream as my beard was already returning to curly form. This time, remembering what my brother had done, I only used the stage one cream and stopped at that. After shampooing it all out, and letting it dry, my beard was amazing. The only thing I noticed was that whenever my beard got wet (either in the shower or when sweating at the gym) there was a faint aroma. It was similar to the stage 1 cream but sweeter. This stopped after a 2 or 3 days. A week later and my beard is still amazing. It’s the softest it has ever been, and it still looks straight but in a more natural looking way than last time. This seems to be the trick. Only using the first cream. You don’t have to do it this way, but seeing as you are going to use the first cream anyway, instead of immediately following up with the second cream – just leave it for a bit and see how your beard feels. I promise you won’t be disappointed. And if you are, then you can just proceed with the stage 2 cream if you want.Definitely 5 stars, for the current effect. Although if I could rate the instructions on the box separately I would.

Save your money and buy a tin of beard wax, this product is useless.
I followed the instructions to the letter and can honestly say it's made no difference whatsoever apart from I'm £11.99 worse of.Rather than buying this rubbish just buy a decent tin of beard wax and control your beard that way.It really is absolutely useless.Apart from NOT straightening your beard it absolutely stinks and will continue stinking for a week after using it, no matter how much you wash your beard and no matter how much beard shampoo you use it still stinks, and it's not just you that can smell it, other people can also smell it from a distance. Then there's the texture, think putting Vaseline in your beard and then trying to wash it out and its almost what it's like, nothing with remove it.So basically if you want to spend £12 and have a beard that stinks offensively and have a beard that's sticky to the touch for a week after using the product and is STILL not straight then YES this is the product for you, if not then keep your money in your pocket.

Not a magic bullet
Had some effect but not as much as I hoped. Unable straighten curls around chin, worked ok for sides.

Waste of money - does absolutely nothing - smells horrible
So firstly, it should say somewhere that the 1st cream reeks. It smells absolutely awful. If the product was to work, it would not be the end of the world, but the smell is terrible. What's worse, is that the product doesn't work. I did absolutely nothing to my beard whatsoever and I followed the instructions to the second. I wanted to ensure I followed it precisely as I read mixed reviews, but upon doing this, it was clear that it had no difference and that the product does nothing. Genuinely a complete waste of money.

I've been growing my beard for about a year and a half, I had a good growth but it tended to curl up into its self, which made it look alot smaller than what it was, thought I would give this a shot before shaving, it's amazing, I followed the instructions and it worked perfectly, yes it smells absolutely horrific, there's no denieing that, but after another wash after I did the stage 2 cream, I used my lime beard balm to help with the smell, the next day it was amazing, went to the barber's to to get it all trimmed up nice, will be buying another one to keep in the cupboard incase they decide to discontinue it

Unless your aim is to smell, doesn’t work!
If you follow all the instructions as written on the package this will straighten your beard and leave it smelling like bin for a few days, thereafter beard returns to pre-treated state.Instructions also say not to use again for 3 months so I’m not entirely sure what the point of this is. Also, part of the instructions are to dry it straight after use so I’m not 100% certain that you wouldn’t see the same results by simply doing that, thereby avoiding smelling like bin juice. On the plus side one package will last a lifetime as I won’t be using it again.

Think carefully about this
I have a mixture of Caribbean and Indian hair, so I thought I could straighten my beard to make it a little tidier. Yeah, this did indeed straighten it but it didn't turn out the way I wanted at all and then the beard became somewhat brittle. I had to get it trimmed down to lessen the effects a little. Now it's kind of more manageable. Remember all hair is different, your experience can be better or worse. 5-stars because it does straighten the hair
