Garbage!!!! I hate this instrument.I would rather buy a toilet seat and play that!!!!!!!!

Back in 1971 I had a Mark VI, I loved it. Played it through 2nd year of college, and then regrettably sold it for $250 more than its new purchase price. 37 years later, sick of playing student models, I purchased my Reference 54, Model 72 Selmer. I actually sound good again. The tone is fantastic, and the low notes are easy to hit and sustain. The intonation is superb. The action is smooth and very responsive. And what a beautiful instrument! I won't make the same mistake and sell this one. I have a Selmer Mark VI tenor also, and my Reference 54 is now my go to instrument.

I purchased my Reference 54 from a Sax shop in Paris, for the price is significantly lower than that of in the U.S. I purchased in Oct 2015 for about $4,500. It is a very well made Saxophone. The only mistake was that I took the Spirit Mouth piece. I am not a Jazz player, I should have asked for classical mouth piece. It has been 5 years, the sax still operates as if it were a new sax.

I've owned many saxophones, and this by far is the best of all of them. Plays well top to bottom and in tune! Has a nice warm sound, yet projects better then any sax I've owned. If you can afford it, it is worth every penny!I bought mine in 2006 for $3600 new. They have greatly increased in price. Usually instruments lose all their value. If you keep this one in great shape, you might actually play it for 15 years and get more out used of it then you paid for it new!

One of the best Selmer saxophones! Great sound, similar to a Mark VI, but more in tune, great key work and far superior than any other brand especially Yamaha!
