No, this does not have the dial in the back for adjustment. It has elastic straps and some snaps to adjust the fit.

My son has 21.5" is he a small or a medium?

According to the Troxel sizing chart; a small is measured between 21.25" and 21.625" so I would suggest a small based on this. However, the Intrepid does tend to fit snugly since it has less adjustment with the cinch back than say the Liberty, which is also a lower profile helmet with a dial adjustment.

What are the s-m-l measurement inches for? How do you measure your head to know what size you need in this brand? Are these for kids or adults or bot?

Per Troxel's website, the sizing for this helmet is as follows (in inches), S: 6 5/8 -7; M: 7 - 7 1/4; L: 7 1/4 - 7 3/8; XL: 7 3/8 - 7 3/4. You measure the circumference of your head with a tape measure with the tape sitting in about the middle of your forehead. These helmets can be used for children or adults based on the size of the childs head. The helmet should always fit snug. Never put a loose helmet on a child so they could "grow into it" that is not proper or safe use for helmets. I hope this helps! Lightweight, Comfortable Riding Helmet

This is a great Troxel helmet! I had older Troxel helmets years ago and wanted an updated version, so chose this model after reading about the different styles. The Intrepid is so nice and lightweight and very comfortable to wear. I measured my head as directed and chose the corresponding size on the chart, and the fit is perfect. I like the self adjusting band at the back of the neck on this style. Since I have not ridden in summer yet with this helmet, I cannot speak to how well it cools my head! I'm very happy with the looks, fit, and light weight of this helmet.

Great look for rounder faces

I currently own the troxel spirit and it feels too bulky but is super comfortable. I wear a size Medium. Both helmets fit about the same . What I like about the intrepid is that it’s less bulky and fits my head better. I’d say this runs a lil smaller than the spirit style. I have a round face so the construction style of the spirit made me look weird. I wore it for comfort because my ovation was scratching my forehead with the poor fit of the liner and it was giving me headaches. I started wearing the troxel more and more. The spirit is good for a go pro . It’s round enough to balance it .I will not get rid of the spirit style for that reason. It’s fun to use the go pro . I have thick long hair and the intrepid doesn’t have the dial to catch my hair. I can’t wait to ride in it !

MIPS Technology Is Well Worth Having

This helmet was mid priced compared to riding helmets out there. It has the MIPS tech which was new when I bought - and I have to say, I'm pretty sure that MIPS tech saved my life last year on a bad fall. Helmet was in one piece, no cracks and only damage was visor broke off. The color is great. Its a comfortable and breathable helmet that is adjustible. I'm going to get a second in a different color so I have a back up or can just switch out. Also, I can attach my go pro to it with not issues in fit.

Good helmet

Nice helmet. Check the manufactured date on the helmet when it arrives. Helmets should be retired after 5 years or a fall. I was sent a helmet that was almost 2 years old already. Disappointing that I won't be able to use this for as long as I had planned to.

Will conform to your head nicely!

When worn for the first time, the helmet felt a bit snug, not uncomfortable, but snug. After that first wearing it seems to conform to my head and is VERY comfortable.
