What is the maximum thickness of steel this machine will weld?

Well since this welder can be operated on 115V or 230V it will depend which voltage you are connected to. on 115V the max current is 125amps which will relate to max 1/8" in a single pass. but if connected to 230V then you will be able to get the max of 200amps out of welder , which will relate to a 1/4" thickness in a single pass. these are both at a 25% duty cycle. Looking at this, the lincoln tig 225, and the miller syncrowave 210. thoughts?

I love the square wave tig 200, I am no expert welder so my review may not hold water with the pros, but this unit is nice, and it is easy to use. and has performed very well for me without any problems, I have put about 40 hours on it so far without an issue.

Is the HF start only on aluminum? Or steel and stainless as well?

High frequency start is used to initiate arc while welding steel. High frequency will be continuous while welding aluminum. The machine will automatically adjust for the process you are using.
