Love it!
I love these books!!! First of all, they are beautiful! The pages don't seem to be as shiny as the previous edition, which is always a plus if you study under lamp light. Tons of illustrations, photographs and charts. The ink on a couple of pages does seem to be a little off, but nothing major. I've only just started using them but from what I've seen so far it is awesome. Latest classifications and diagnostic criteria for diseases like RA. Also the dvd seems to be very useful. I've only gone through the neurology exam, but it seems to be a high quality video with important information. I think these books are worth it, especially for the price!

Harrison's 18th Edition Principles of Internal Medicine
Harrison's is a 2-volume 2012 18th edition of this respected series is a standard in its field. Readers of compendia of this sort will find comprehensive coverage of the state of knowledge and practice at the time of writing. They need to be aware that new research findings lead to constant updating of the knowledge base. While it is highly likely that the information in this edition is state of art, there is the lingering chance that something newere is out there. That is the problem with printed text in a field of knowledge that can never be truly 'final'. Harrison's tries to compensate for this by including with the set a DVD filled with hands-on information for the practitioner that is coupled with an invitation to subscribe to a service that brings constant updates to the field. General non-practitioner users of Harrison's are unlikely to subscribe to this service and need to rely of their own internal medicine specialist to remain up-to-date with ongoing developments. For example, 'swine flu' does not appear as a covered topic, even though media reports are likely to refer to the infection in this way. The scope of the set is immense, while comprehensive indexing makes most of it readily accessible. I purchased a supposedly used copy but was not able to distinguish it from new stock in a specialty bookstore.

Best ever
I've been accquainted with Harrison's since 1984 and this is my third edition purchase. The quality and richness of the photos and design are very impressive; also well organized chapters. I was used to the one volume book, but this one comes in two volumes; however, as a reference textbook I find find it quite approppriate. It's my opinion this to be the "bible" for Internal Medicine, and the additions of new chapters, plus the dvd makes all well worth it. This is a 'must have' for anyone who wants to become a more well-rounded clinician, and guaranteed, you will not be dissapointed. I was very pleased with the price and expediency from Amazon... Great customer service.

I like the content -- but binding and standards need to be improved.
I love the 2 volume book. It has ao much info that I use it to supplement my research and study. One thing I don't like about the formatting is that chapter sections run together too closely (probably to reduce the number of pages) and chapters may start at the bottom of a page. I'll get use to it. The books are a treasure. My only real complaint was the handling. The pages of volume one come damaged. The first few hundred pages were wrinkled as if they'd bern wet. No water stain though. I don't know what happened but I hate damaged books. Also I open the book to the index and noticed that the pages were splitting away from the binding before I could even use the book. It looks like the publisher just did a poor job of things. I expect these pages to fall out soon. I'll keep what I have, but I won't rush to buy an updated version in future given the books' issues.

A must-have for medical students
The book is thorough, yet doesn't waste your time putting in more lenght than what you need to understand the complex. The pragmatism imbued in the writing style of this book makes it a pleasure to read and easy to find the information you're looking for. As a medical student, I've found it extremely helpful in quickly finding and comprehending information.

Gold standard for medical pros and lay people who want to keep medical pros in check
The gold standard for anyone interested in entering the medical profession or, like me, those who are kind of medical nerds and are helping other people (my elderly parents and relatives) manage several chronic diseases. You have to learn a little medical lingo, they don't talk down to lay people. But intelligent lay people can (and in my opinion, should) use this to double check the medical professionals treating you and your loved ones. Get a good medical dictionary and read a couple of basic Anatomy and Phisiology books along with a solid college level biology book and you can understand 99% of what they talk about in here. It's expensive, but in my opinion, worth every dollar. You have to get some reading glasses if you are over 50, because the print on an 8.9 inch Kindle Fire HDX screen is a bit tough to read.

The book content is excellent. Only thing is this version is NOT compatible ...
The book content is excellent. Only thing is this version is NOT compatible with window 8, Android. Compatible with iPAD and Kindle. A lot of physicians like to carry larger phone like Galaxy Note. But unfortunately it is not compatible and so less likely to use it.
