Insect Lore Butterfly Garden GIFT SET with 3-5 Caterpillars

I bought this butterfly garden for my daughters, aged 3 and 7, and I think it's safe to say that the butterflies have been one of the highlights of their year. We received 4 caterpillars ( I think we were supposed to receive 5) and we kept them in a corner of the lounge away from direct sunlight as it was the room with the least varying temperature range. To manage expectations I had told the girls that it was possible that maybe none of the caterpillars, but hopefully at least one of them would actually make it into a butterfly. Luckily, three out of the four did! We witnessed two of them as they emerged from the chrysalis; the other one emerged when we were out of the room. It was very exciting, even for Mummy and Daddy to witness this miracle of life and transformation. Unfortunately, one of the butterflies didn't have it's wings form properly. After about a week, we let them all go. The instructions suggested release after 2-4 days, but the weather wasn't quite right over a couple of days. We tested this by putting them outside the front door, but they were shivering away and unable to fly, so we brought them back in.The girls got used to having them around and we do miss them now they're gone. When we did release them on a sunny day, it only took a few seconds before they were soared at a height.. Apparently, they can emigrate to as far as Africa in the winter, which is staggering! After they had become butterflies and before we released them, we had let them fly around the lounge a little. They were very comfortable crawling on the girl's hands and faces! Would definitely recommend! Just remember to detangle the silk from the chrysalis, and feed them with fruit/nectar once they've emerged. And try to not disturb the metamorphosis period! A bit tricky with young children :)

Brilliant butterfly experience for lockdown! The butterflies got their freedom before us! Beautiful kit, the caterpillars were tiny when they arrived, and 4 made it up to the top to form a chrysalis. One didn't crawl up but made his crysalis on the base of the tub. Unfortunately one fell when transplanting to the butterfly garden and he didn't emerge, along with the other that was on the floor. However we released 3 beautiful butterflies. Enjoyed the whole experience and my children aged 8 and 10 loved it! We are now on our 2nd tub (we only needed to buy the tub of caterpillars to do it all again, as you can reuse the rest of the kit). Would recommend.

Bought for our granddaughter's 4th birthday, including 7 tiny caterpillars (sent separately). Watched the caterpillars grow and construct their chrysalises then emerge into 7 healthy butterflies. We had a special freedom day when granddaughter opened the garden top and her butterflies came out one-by-one and flew out into her garden. She was captivated by the whole process and learned a lot!

This is a clever, attractive, and well-thought out kit for children. Our daughter and grand-daughter (4) are getting a lot of intersting fun from it. It is packed perfectly, with easy to follow the instructions, fun treats for the youngsters, and, most importantly, with the eggs included (they have been named!) The process is already underway so when they arrived we were pleased to find the changes happened quickly. This has been better than we ever expected it to be and we had high hopes to begin with. Delighted with this product.

It was very simple to use and very educating for our daughter who was also learning about this life cycle in school at the time....felt good to release 5 healthy butterflies into the wild !!!

It was fun and interesting to watch the caterpillars doing their thing, and lovely to set the beautiful butterflies free. The cardboard lid holder is rubbish and the poor cocoons got squashed a few times but were okay

Absolutely fantastic gift! Bought for my daughters birthday and she loved watching the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly. 5 tiny caterpillars turned into 5 beautiful butterflies which we then set free in the garden. Will definitely be buying again from Insect Lore. Great value for money and informative, educational information also provided in a tidy little cardboard box.

It was the perfect little gift for my children [and me]. We received 5 tiny caterpillars that within a day transformed from sleeping beauties into munching machines. After 10 days they all transformed each into a Chrysalis and after another 10 days we had Butterflies. It couldn't have been easier.Healthy animals and great fun for all family!
